WHY IT WILL BE "THE SUMMER OF MO"

"I think maybe it will be before the All-Star break", is what Mariano Rivera told Kevin Kernan of the New York Post (Read HERE.) Mo continued, "It would be nice that you tell the fans, so every stadium you go to, the fans will be there to show their appreciation and you appreciate the fans."Look, Rivera claims he's not 100% sure of what he's going to do in 2013, but statements like the one above tells me his mind is all but made up. They also tell me that Rivera is shrewd too. Mo has always been a student of the game and very much knows his place in history (more on
that in a moment). If he were going to pitch in 2013, why not say it now; put all the speculation and questions to rest, right? I know he wants to be sure and won't be sure until the season starts, but come on...

Now, there's no denying Mariano is the greatest closer EVER! Yankee fans know it and the rest of the league knows it. When he says, "every stadium you go to, the fans will be there to show their appreciation and you appreciate the fans", that is Mo's swan song. He's planning on a 3 month tour where he can visit the fans one last time and he can show appreciation, but mostly so that all fans from around the league can give him one last cheer and say thanks for all he's done. He can soak it all up, enjoy the memories, and take it all with him into the sunset. Wow, what an ego on this guy! That's what would normally be written in this post if it were anyone else. This is Mariano Rivera. He may be the most humble of Gods. He knows his place, but also appreciates everything that comes with it. For all of this I salute you Mr. Rivera. Enjoy your victory lap and your retirement!
