WHY THE YANKEES & MARTIN STOPPED EXTENSION TALK

Just when you thought maybe the Yankees and Russell Martin were going to get together on a 3 year extension...suddenly...nothing.

According to Andrew Marchand HERE, the Yankees and Martin have decided that maybe they should wait to negotiate a deal after the season when Martin is a free-agent. Clearly Martin enjoys being a Yankee and the Yankees like Martin... remember when Cashman called him "Munson-like"? Damn that must have killed Jorge Posada. Anyway, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Russell Martin is seeking more than the 3 year, $20 million the Yankees offered him. Read HERE.

So what needs to happen for Russell and the Yankees to get back together at the end of 2012? Martin needs to have a good season and be "Munson-like" again and the Yankees need to appreciate him even more and sign Martin for what he's worth. Hopefully it all works out and even though Martin will become a free agent, the marriage will continue.... but yeah, as of right now, talks are off...
