As you know by now, AJ Burnett is leaving the New York Yankees and headed to Pittsburgh. Read HERE. These are the details of the trade:
The Yankees get 2 prospects in the deal:
Diego Moreno: a 25 year old right handed relief pitcher who appeared with the Pirates Class A and Double A minor league teams.
Exicardo Cayones: Cayones is 20 years old and an outfielder. He spent 2011 in Class A ball.
As far as the Burnett contract is concerned, the Pirates will pay $13 million of the $31.1 million that is remaining on his contract.
And that's it. AJ Burnett leaves New York. CC Sabathia was asked about it earlier today and said the following: "tough to see him go. We came into this thing together. But I think it’s best for him and we just move on. It’s part of the game, he’s been around a long time and I think he understands.”
“...a change of scenery... Sometimes that does well for guys, and hopefully that can do well for him…Hopefully he stays healthy and it works out for the best for him.”
When asked about is Sabathia spoke to Burnett about his struggles, Sabathia said:
“We didn’t really talk about it, to be honest. It was a tough time, I didn’t want to be talking to him every single day about not pitching well. Nobody wants to hear that. So we just kept that on a friendship basis and went from there.”
Those quotes were brought to you be Anthony McCarron from the New York Daily news, HERE. Sabathia is a class act and you know what? So's Burnett. I liked the 2 of them coming into the Bronx together, it's just a shame it didn't work out for AJ.
And now we move on, the Yankees will hopefully pursue Eric Chavez and/or Raul Ibanez. Go Yanks!
