Roy Oswalt: Jerry Crasnick reported HERE that Roy Oswalt want a one-year contract. The Yankees must have some interest, right? I don't see why not. Sure he has back issues (HERE), which they were concerned about in the past, but it's not like the guy can't walk or anything. Sure he only made 23 starts last year, but once he came back he made all of his 11 scheduled starts, and he was able to make his lone start in the postseason. Oswalt has never pitched in the American League, let alone the American League East, but I think he's worth the risk. One year at $10-$13 million could do. Let's see what Cashman does.Hiroki Kuroda: Kuroda is close to a deal with an unknown team, reports Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports. Read about that HERE. He reports that a number of teams that aren't involved including the Yankees. Personally, I just don't get this. Go ahead and say what you want about Kuroda pitching in the National League West, and being 36 years old, but like Oswalt, Kuroda is worth the one year risk. He's lowered his ERA every single year, he strikes out enough batters (career 6.7 K/9), doesn't walk a lot of guys (career 2.1 BB/9), and gets plenty of ground balls (career 48.6% GB rate). He may or may not be better than everyone else on the staff not named CC, but I can tell you he's better than Phil Hughes and AJ Burnett, and could even be better than Ivan Nova and Freddy Garcia. Maybe Cashman could pull a rabbit out of his hat late, but based on whats happened so far, I won't hold my breath. Casey has a different take on Kuroda, read WHY KURODA IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR THE YANKEES.
Yoennis Cespedes: Finally, a guy the Yankees are actually interested in. According to Kevin Goldstein, (his Tweet HERE) the Yankees are "BIG" on Cespedes. Hopefully they get him. It'd probably spell the end of the Andruw Jones era in the Bronx, but that's what happens when you have a chance to get a young stallion of Cespedes' caliber. Read our latest piece on Cespedes titled WHY IT'S ABOUT TO GET HOT & HEAVY FOR CESPEDES.
As more rumors develop, Bleeding Yankee Blue will have them... so "check back Ladies and Gentlemen", as Casey always says!
