CURTIS GRANDERSON: REVIEWING OUR PROJECTIONS

  • Projected: .280 Avg, 30 Hrs, 32 stolen bases
  • 2011: .262 Avg, 41 Hrs, 25 stolen bases
We all know it by now, Curtis Granderson had himself an MVP caliber season. Will he win the award? I'm not sure, there are a number of other worthy candidates, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Grandy man won it. He was second in baseball in homers, while finishing first in all of Major League Baseball with 136 runs scored and 119 RBI. Now, there's some people out there who say those stats are overrated. Say what you want, but you have to be doing something right if you lead the sport in both of those statistics. Granderson did have a pretty low average, but his OBP (.364) is very good. Would I have liked to see a higher average out of Granderson? Yeah, who wouldn't? But the fact of the matter is that Granderson produces, and that's why he had an MVP caliber season.

Now, we talked about UZR with Brett Gardner in our last projections review piece. Read it HERE. UZR loved Gardner, but UZR doesn't love Granderson that much. Granderson had a -5.1 UZR, basically saying he allowed about a hair over five runs to score that shouldn't have scored if he played better defense. But come on, we've watched the games, Granderson is a very good defensive player. As we saw in the playoffs (Read HERE), we know Grandy is very capable of saving runs when needed.
