You never want your team to have to dig themselves out of a hole and that is exactly what happened. Once again an "OK, but not great" Bartolo Colon could not stop the Athletics from scoring and they did that tonight, a few times. The A's scored 3 off him and then later on, Boone Logan came in and let 2 other runs that were Colon's score as well. It was 5-0 at that point. Then, Hector Noesi allowed a homer. 6-0 A's...were the Yankee bats going to show up today?
Then the Yankees finally did show up. In the bottom of the 8th, with 2 men on base, Nick Swisher smashed a 3 run homer to make it 6-3.(Photo: Getty)
In the 9th inning, Jorge Posada cranked out a solo shot and then suddenly it was 6-4. I smelled pie at the point. Shortly after that, the bases became loaded. Mark Teixeira made a pop fly out to the right of third base. Now there are 2 outs. Andrew Bailey walked in Russell Martin to make it 6-5. Curtis Granderson was able to work that walk. That pie was smelling delicious right about then.
The stage was set. The bases, still loaded brought up Nick Swisher who is a huge pie fan and has hit walk offs so many times for the Yankees in the past. Would he do it again?
Nice contact... it was a long drive to deep center field, at the wall... it's caught. Game over, Yankees lose. Close, but no cigar Nick, not tonight.
I looked at my kid who was just a few moments before, really excited, hoping for a Yankee win. Now, he was crushed. He stood up, walked out of the TV room and said "Teixeira stinks right now." That weak pop out by Tex really bothered my son apparently. What bothered me was having to have to climb back into the game. No one likes that. No one.One highlight I need to point out though. Derek Jeter had 3 hits and a sacrifice tonight and is almost batting .300. How sweet is that?
Final Score tonight: Athletics 6 - Yankees 5.
Just forget about this one and let's come back tomorrow and win one. That's all you can do.

I agree with your son. That one took the sails out of me. A decent fly ball and we have a tie game. Oh well. I have watched baseball for more than fifty years and I consider a game good if we have the tying run at the plate in the ninth. Oh and I wasn't at all keen on Jeter bunting.
