WHY IT'S 2994 AND COUNTING

Derek Jeter's back in the starting lineup tonight after rehabbing in Trenton and it's already started... When will Jeter hit his 3000th hit as a New York Yankee?

To me, I know it's coming, but the wondering and asking "when" is alittle over the top, isn't it?

I wrote WHY I KNOW WHEN JETER HITS 3000, kind of mocking the whole ordeal a bit. People are literally trying to map it out so they can buy tickets and be at the historic event. I get it, it's a great idea, but I don't have the time or energy to do something like that. Many fans are hoping 3000 happens when the Yankees are at Yankee Stadium. Me? Well, I would love for it to happen at Yankee Stadium in front of the greatest fans in the world. We can applaud him and Thank him for giving us not only so much in his career over the years, but more than that, we need to celebrate Jeet as a positive role model as well. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to 3000, we just need to roll with it.

I had said in my 300o piece that I predicted July 15th in Toronto would be the night he hits 3000. Maybe... maybe not. For all we know, he'll have 4 hits tonight in Cleveland and 2 more tomorrow. See what I mean? It's a guessing game, we need to just sit back and let it happen.

I also wrote WHY 3000 COMES BEFORE 28 back in May. In it, I suggested how huge this accomplishment is. It totally is and when it happens, hopefully in the Bronx, but anywhere in Major League Baseball, it will be huge and Derek needs to enjoy it. This isn't only good for the Yankees, it is good for all of baseball. Say what you will about Derek Jeter, love him or hate him, he represents the true ballplayer, the clean cut role model that every kid needs to idolize.

This feat will represent all that good in the game of baseball and Derek Jeter will stand there in whatever city he'll be in, raise his cap and enjoy this moment. We, being the rabid baseball fans all around the globe, should applaud this man for not only 3000, but for his positive image. Positive for all kids.... positive for baseball. That's my take at least.
