Last night we were swept by the Red Sox and all is not right with the Yankees right now.Yes, the Posada gate scandal is behind us, and that distraction is behind us, so I thought for sure we'd be back to playing good baseball, and we did for the most part, meaning, we showed signs of life, but we just couldn't get the win, and that makes me hurt the most. Getting swept always sucks, but getting swept by the dreadful Red Sox blows.(photo: Star Ledger)
There was some big defense by the Yankees last night, Brett Gardner made a magnificant catch and I love when Tex dives to the bag to get out the runner using his flashy glove. That's heads up.(photo: Star Ledger)
We had an early lead for Freddy Garcia, and as you know, that always helps, but the reality is, the Red Sox are not the Pirates, they are a good ballclub and the trouble with the lead we had was it just wasn't enough. Freddy pitched well, but in the end, he couldn't help himself out and was removed from the game. Freddy did well, I do not blame him entirely.(photo: Star Ledger)
The offense proved we had some life too, Curtis "Home run" Granderson and Andruw Jones homered and that's all fine and good, but again, we need runs to score. Home runs we cannot depend on for a win every night. Lem Allen brought up Ducks on the pond HERE and he's right. Those runs have to come around to score at some point.
The highlight of the night has to come from this: Bobby Valentine was talking down about Alex last night big time, complaining that the reason he's not hitting was because of his leg kick. He had diagrams and everything. He basically acted like a professor who was sure he knew why Alex was in a slump. The next pitch, A-Rod smacked it down the 3rd base line scoring Granderson. God I love baseball.
The worst part was that ball that Alex should have had in the 7th. There are Bad News Bears tendancies every game and it needs to stop. And finally, Carl Crawford is lost in Boston, and damn I love it. This is a guy that talked trash about the Yankees for not signing him, yet, he can't get a hit with the Red Sox. I hope it lasts.
Final Score: Red Sox 7 - Yankees 5.
Man that sucks. Yanks need wins, that 5 losses in a row, that is horrible.

It's not just 5 straight, it's 11 of 15. We're only 1 game better than the Sox and 2 better than The Other Team now.
ReplyDeleteSomething needs to be done, and if Girardi needs to do the Yankee equivalent of telling Cal Ripken he's taking a day off, so be it. Yes, I'm suggesting letting Derek Jeter sit one out. And I really hate to say this, because I love the guy (and also because the Yanks don't really have an alternative at this point), but maybe Nick Swisher should also sit for a while.
