So far, every day since “the incident”, there are stories out there about what he said to reporters, or they will write about how he’s not in the lineup or they write about when the poor guys taking a crap. You know what I need New York sports media? I need you to tell me what he does at the plate, after all, that’s his job and he needs to concentrate on THAT and all these other stories about him are clearly making him uncomfortable and frustrated.
Mark my words, if Jorge decides to hang it up, it will be the media that should be blamed because of the pressure this guy's under right now. Yes, the same media that make him their darling when he gets hits or does incredible charity work. But Jorge can’t hit and suddenly he’s "Old man" Posada who doesn’t have a chance. It’s pathetic.
Tonight the “big news” is Jorge Posada is playing first base. Ok, I guess that’s kind of news, but it’s not breaking news. Twitter is all over this “story” giving stats and worrying that he’s going to fail. You know what? I’m not a fan of Jorge playing first either and I’ll tell you why. If he has a lousy game at first base tonight, he’ll feel worse than he did before when he was only hitting. Then the media then will jump on him for that and before you know it, Jorge Posada is a shell of himself, going through the motions and counting the days on the calendar until he’s free from the Yankees. It’s like watching a slow death and it’s truly unfair.
Yes, if he goes out there and has a decent game at first base, and maybe have alittle fun, it will take his mind off of hitting and maybe he'll be more comfortable at the plate, I just worry that he'll be alittle to anxious, that's all. Maybe I'm being too protective.
Look, Posada did it to himself, but let’s not forget, this is one of our Core Four heroes. We need to stop the nonsense. Girardi needs to play him at DH and Long needs to work with him. If he concentrates and gets into a rhythm in the job that he is supposed to play and he succeeds, we’re no longer talking about Posada-gate, but if we sit him against lefties and put him into positions that he’s not comfortable, the only thing we get at the end of the day is a defeated, shriveled up Jorge Posada with no confidence and no will to play the game anymore. I worry about that. Don’t destroy this guy New York. Don’t do it.
