The annual CC Challenge kicked off this
weekend, with CC and Amber Sabathia hosting a party at Lucky Strike for the
teams participating. Thirty teams will be competing in a scavenger hunt for the
coveted CC Cup, as the foundation raises money and awareness for issues
relating to education, health, and self-esteem of inner city youth. It’s a
great cause, and one you should get behind. Bleeding Yankee Blue loves this cause and had to be there. Luckily, we had the chance last night.
We were able to chat Amber Sabathia about the event and the program. She didn't make us feel like outsiders at all! When I introduced myself as a writer from Bleeding Yankee Blue, it appeared that her face lit up. Amber was on point about the cause:
“It’s a blessing. We do the foundation work to give back. You have to do these types of events to raise awareness, to raise money. But for us to be able to go back, and to actually give back by doing a fun event, it’s the reason why I do it.”
You’ll want to follow along on Twitter by following #CCChallenge as the Sabathias post clues and pictures during the event. We got a little inside scoop on this from Amber, “I don’t think a lot of people know that me and CC will be clues. We decided that this year we’re going to be clues, to spice it up a little bit. I may not look like this tomorrow.” It should definitely be a lot of fun.
CC also took the time to talk a
little baseball. He acknowledged that the Yankees have a lot of holes to fill
for next season. He also pointed out that he’s doing his part to help in that
cause by trying to talk his friend Robinson Cano into sticking around. When
asked about his health, he said his legs feel strong, that he’s getting his
workouts in, and that he expects to be ready to go in 2014.
As far as charity events go, you
have to applaud them. You can tell that the Sabathias are about helping and giving
back, and this event was especially meaningful when you think about how the
event had to be cancelled last year due to Hurricane Sandy. Even then, they and
other members of the Yankees made it a point to find a way to help (Read CC SABATHIA DOES HIS PART AFTER HURRICANE SANDY.)
It’s nice to see people who are in a position to
help those in need, and to consider it a blessing. It’s an example we all
should follow, and we wish them all the best!
