(Bill "Moose" Skowron was a fixture at Yankee Old Timer's Day)
Some very, very sad news to report out of Yankeeland this afternoon. The Yankee family has lost a great man. Bill "Moose" Skowron has passed away at the age of 81 after a long battle with lung cancer.
(L-R, Maris, Berra, Mantle, Skowron)
"Moose was a six-time All-Star first baseman who starred for the Yankees from 1954-1962 and played alongside some of the greatest Yankees ever: Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Roger Maris, to name a few. "Moose" hit .292 with 165 homers and in 1,087 games over those nine seasons with the Yankees before being traded to the Dodgers in 1962. He played another five seasons for the Dodgers, White Sox, Senators, and Angels. Skowron was a clutch postseason hitter as well, batting .293 with eight homers in 39 playoff games, including a long ball against his old teammates as the Dodgers swept the Yankees in the 1963 World Series.

We will miss you "Moose". God bless you and thank you for the wonderful memories and for making us proud to call you a New York Yankee great!
