WHY BASEBALL STILL NEEDS JOSE CANSECO

This is ironic. I mean I’m not a fan of steroids in baseball and I believe personally that Jose Canseco brought total controversy to the game, even though he also opened everyone’s eyes alittle wider. To be totally honest, drugs in sports have always been there, it just wasn’t really talked about much. If it wasn’t steroids, it was something else and if it wasn’t drugs, it was alcohol and God knows what else. My point is, it was always there. What’s funny to me though is that Jose Canseco, the same guy that “highlighted” steroid use in baseball is the same guy that wants to still play baseball. Not in the Major Leagues of course, but in the Mexican Baseball League. Then, when the Mexican Baseball League refuses to let him play because he refused to take a doping test...he’s upset. Read the full story HERE. Jose, can you see? Seriously, you don’t see what’s going on right now? Drugs in sports… it’s wrong. You were the one that “highlighted” it…remember?

ESPN Deportes says that the Mexican Baseball League told Canseco he could not play in their league because it's being reported that he wouldn't take a test because according to ESPN:

"Quintana Roo Tigers team president Cuauhtemoc Rodriguez says doping-control doctors advised Canseco against taking the test because he was using a medicine to produce testosterone.

He says Canseco already had informed the team he was using the medicine because his body doesn't produce the substance naturally."

Oh, this is rich! Karma’s a bitch sometimes.

But this isn’t the best part of this story. No, the best part is what will happen next..or now. Jose Canseco will not go quietly and thank God for Twitter, because you really need to sign up if you haven’t already. Canseco will plead his case for sure. He'll go on a Twitter rampage throwing out 140-character 1-liners that will be funnier than Robin Williams in his 80’s comedy.

Canseco is a Twitter junkie, and when he’s on, he offers a tremendous mix of emotions. Sometimes he’s sad, sometimes he’s mad and sometimes he defends himself for his actions from 2004 when he claimed that 80% of baseball were substance users. Now, I’m not here to judge Canseco’s claim, he was there, I wasn’t and I sure as hell do not know what’s true and what isn't. What I can tell you is I have had mixed feelings about this whole mess. I’m sad for the game of baseball, I’m sad it went down the way it did and I feel bad for the kids that think that drugs can make you better. That’s it. That being said, It’s about the be the Canseco show and I can’t wait.

So yes, baseball strangely needs Jose Canseco. I don’t know if he needs to even swing a baseball bat, but maybe he just needs to hang around independent leagues or crank softballs over a wall of a miniature homemade Yankee Stadium, I don’t care… bottom line is we need Canseco around.

It’s almost like it’s all coming back to haunt this man who was proud of himself for “exposing” everyone in the game.

Whatever happens though, good luck Jose. Maybe they’ll do a remake of the Bad News Bears and you can be the next Kelly Leak. Oh yeah, they did a remake already… sorry…missed the boat again. No worries, they probably would have drug tested you anyway. Bummer.
