HAMELS IS A TEXAS RANGER
No one really saw Cole Hamels coming to the Yankees... did they?
Deals pretty much done between the Rangers and the Phillies. According to Hardball Talk:
"Rangers get … SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman
Phillies get … C Jorge Alfaro, OF Nick Williams, SP Alec Asher, SP Jerad Eickhoff, SP Jake Thompson, SP Matt Harrison".
Carry on.

WHAT WILL PRICE COST?
As trade rumors continue to swirl, one name that has been tossed around a lot recently is David Price. The Tigers have said that they are looking to deal their pending free agents, and the Yankees might be one of the teams interested.
Of course that doesn't mean much in itself. Joe Girardi, when asked about Price, said "He's an ace, that's what he is. And he's been an ace for a long time. He's been durable and takes the ball every fifth day. We'll see what happens." The Skip knows what he's talking about here. And considering that Girardi is usually tight lipped, maybe he's holding out on us?
There's no doubt that the Yankees could be after Price. The Tigers are looking to reboot and will likely listen to offers, but it won't be cheap. He's an ace, after all. The Yankees will have to be big spenders.
We know that they brought up Rob Refsynder recently as a way to showcase him. It's also rumored that Ivan Nova's name was throw in the hat for Johnny Cueto. If he can be used before, he'll easily be on the table again. The Tigers are looking for young players, particularly pitchers and outfielders. It would make sense for the Yankees to offer Refsynder and Nova in an attempt to get Price in the Bronx.
Friday is the deadline. If the Yankees are in on Price, they'll have to make a serious offer soon. Price is not the kind of player you want to miss out on.

COLE HAMELS IS BACK IN THE MIX
It looks like the noise around Cole Hamels to the Yankees is picking up volume. The latest story is around the Yankees putting Ivan Nova on the table. The Phillies sent their scouts to Arlington to check him out, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. If nothing else, t shows the regardless of what Brian Cashman has said, the Yankees are looking for a blockbuster deal to bring a premier arm into the rotation.
Source: Phillies were in TX Monday specifically to scout Nova. Could be re: Hamels. Still, Price a more likely target given Hamels contract.
— Mark Feinsand (@FeinsandNYDN) July 29, 2015
Ivan Nova's came up recently, in trade talks with the Cincinnati Reds. He was the Yankees' chip for Johnny Cueto. If he was on the block before, he can be on the block again. After the Yankees slammed the door on any deals with the name Judge or Severino. Since the Phillies want to get a potential star in return, With his ERA of 3.38 and opponent BA of .254, and after just 6 weeks of pitching post-Tommy John surgery, there is upside to this deal for the Phillies. Most agree that David Price may be the better deal, with 3 years and over $70M left on Hamels' contract. The asking price should be markedly lower. As you heard earlier today from BYB, "WE'RE DEFINITELY IN ON PRICE".. Still, you don't send scouts to Arlington unless you're talking turkey.
Stay tuned .... things are about to get interesting ....

"WE'RE DEFINITELY IN ON PRICE"
That quote came in a text form from a friend of mine that put a call into one of his friends at the New York Yankees. Whether or not they were allowed to actually say anything to him is another post for another time...
"We're definitely in on Price" doesn't seem earth shattering, but it definitely let's us see that something is happening when it comes to the Yankees and starting pitching and the trade deadline. Yankee fans are chomping at the bit.
Now, as I expressed in PRICE & CESPEDES ARE AVAILABLE... YOU IN?, the idea of Price in pinstripes is appealing because we need pitching, he's a lefty and he's a good pitcher, but you gotta wonder if the guy can handle a place like New York. Tampa Bay and Detroit aren't the same. I personally want to see David in New York. One good outing and he's on his way.
Cespedes on the other hand... eh. I mean, I could take him or leave him, especially if it means us holding onto guys like Aaron Judge, Luis Severino and Greg Bird. I'd rather have the kids. But you know as well as I... the Tigers will try to package these guys and they will want prospects... and they will want alot of them.
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN:
#Tigers called teams today & told them they're "rebooting." Will listen on David Price, Cespedes etc. More to come at http://t.co/gtnhE81RUu
— Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) July 29, 2015
Well, there you go and that goes back to my buddy's insider with the New York Yankees. What they would give up? Who knows, but for me personally, I have always have been of the belief that the Yankees liked Price or James Shields. I just have a gut feeling it's gonna be Price. If Cash is smart, the big 3 won't be included in that deal.
And remember my prediction of Rob Refsnyder? Yup... he'd be part of that deal... trust me.

CAPUANO GONZO!
No breaking news banner here. We all knew it was coming. Chris Capuano was designated for assignment.
The New York Post writes: "The Yankees designated Capuano for assignment, despite owing him approximately $2 million on his $5 million salary for this season, and kept Moreno on the roster Wednesday. The Yankees have 10 days to trade the 36-year-old lefty before he goes to waivers and then gets the option of accepting a minor league assignment from the Yankees."
Moreno is Diego Moreno... and last night, he was amazing against the Rangers.
Life goes on... now, how do we get rid of Stephen Drew?
Hmmm.
YOU BIG DUMMY!
There's a saying about wisdom being the ability to learn from other peoples mistakes. Someone, a long time ago, put their hand in a fire, and burned it. The guy sitting next to him saw and thought "Well, that looks painful. I'm probably not going to do that." And so, we teach our children to not put their hands in fire. All because of that one guy who witnessed someone else burning their hands. You see someone else mess up, you generally are going to try not to do as they did. Unless, of course, you are Jenrry Mejia.
Meija, who only just recently returned to baseball on July 8th after an 80 game suspension for PED's, is now suspended AGAIN, after a second positive test. This time for 162 games, effective immediately. Yes, that's right... Mejia, how hasn't allowed a run in 7 1/3 inning since his return just a few days ago, is suspended for a second time this season.
Mets general manager, Sandy Alderson spoke about it, saying:
"Not surprisingly, there's a tremendous amount of disappointment. I think to some extent, anger. To some extent, amazement that this could happen so soon after a previous suspension was completed. And some sadness, in the sense that this is having a tremendously adverse effect on a very promising Major League career. And that's a shame."
Alderson, in my opinion, was extremely kind in his comments. I think it is flat out stupid. And "stupid" is just not a term I use often. It's bothersome, and indicates that someone lacks the capacity to think beyond the edge of their noses. It is also very fitting in this case. He tested positive for Stanozolol, which is the same substance that showed up on his first failed test, as well as Boldenone. I cannot wrap my mind around someone being so blatantly careless with their career. He just came back from suspension, for god sake! If I were a Mets fan, I'd be angry. If I were the GM, owner... everyone in that organization is justified in their anger.
His first suspension made him ineligible to play in the 2015 postseason. Now he'll be ineligible to play until July 2016. He becomes arbitration-eligible this winter. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Mets decide to non-tender him.
I just honestly cannot wrap my mind around it. What did he expect to happen? I would have hoped that Alex Rodriguez's season long suspension, and all the events that led up to it would have served as a warning. If ARod, who is arguably one of the biggest stars in the game, was subject to such an incredibly large suspension, why wouldn't anyone else be? Knowing that the MLB is taking a stance against steroids, why even bother attempting it at all? But apparently, some people are just predisposed to put their hands in the fire no matter how many people they have seen burn.

THE BIG PAYBACK
Last night's win wasn't about the Yankees beating the Rangers. It was about all the Yankees and the crap press they've received since the winter. It was about getting past the ARod controversy, the gelling of a team or lack there of sometimes. It was about the Girardi binder and the retirement of Derek Jeter one season before. It was symbolic, an announcement to Yankee fans if you will; We have arrived! We walked through landmines far too long! We, the New York Yankees are here... and we want a championship! It was the big payback for all the trash talk!
Watch... they'll score 1 run tonight...
Huge win for the Yankees last night, but it didn't start like that at all. Chris Capuano started for the Yankees. He went 0.2 innings giving up 5 runs in no time flat. He was horrible.
A buddy of mine texted me and said "The Yanks were showing off Capuano just in case a team wanted him in a trade. It backfired... we'll be stuck with this guy forever." Maybe he was right, maybe not, but the start of Capuano was silly. Yankee hearts were deflated at that point. Then something happened...
In the second inning, Chase Headley singled knocking in Chris Young. Then Brendan Ryan doubled knocking in 2. After that, it was Jacoby Ellsbury singling in 1. Next... Brett Gardner singled in Ryan.
Alex Rodriguez then doubled knocking in 1. Headley was back at the plate again and knocked in another. Didi Gregorius then tripled scoring 3. And a guy that's doing all he can to be a contributor... contributed again. Brendan Ryan doubled to knock in the 11th run of the inning.
In the 3rd, Chris Young hit a Grand Slam. But he wasn't done. He was back in the 4th to double in another run.
John Ryan Murphy then showed up to single and knock in Garrett Jones.
In the 9th, Gardy stuck a finger in the Texas eye... hitting a 2 run homer... and just like that, the Yankees stomped on the Rangers 21-5.
Big tip of the cap to the Yankee relief by the way. They held the Rangers to 5 runs and 3 hits literally the entire game. That's team work.
Damn, what a game.
Final: Yankees 21 - 5

COLE HAMELS RAFFLE TOMORROW
The Phillies have announced to teams that if they are gonna make an offer, make it a good one and make it tomorrow...especially if you want Cole Hamels.
According to ESPN, "The Philadelphia Phillies have told several teams interested in acquiring Cole Hamels that they'd like to get their "best" offers by Wednesday...The team would then make a decision about where -- and whether -- to trade him."
The teams that have been in contact with the Phils are several, the Dodgers, the Giants, the Astros as of recently and the Yankees are out there as well, but the biggest problem Cashman has right now is not being too tempted to flip one of our 3 Golden boys for Hamels.
Doing that would be career suicide for Cashman. He knows this. Fans will be all over him if we trade a guy like Aaron Judge for a dude with mileage on his arm like Hamels.
That being said, the Yankees could use 1 pitcher, probably a starter. I don't know why, and I'll make sure to make some calls on this, but I feel like 2 guys, David Price or James Shields are the guys the Yankees are eyeing. I don't think there is a serious Hamels run for the Yanks. Then again, I never claimed to be a baseball insider.
If anything new comes out on Hamels, we will surely tell you.

TULOWITZKI TRADED. YANKS STAY. IT MAKES SENSE.
Well, Troy Tulowitzki was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays and it might be the strangest move I've seen in a long, long time. Not only because the Jays swooped in and got Tulo and the Yankees didn't, but for the personnel attached. It's very strange to me.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the trade indeed happened:
BREAKING: Tulo traded to #BlueJays.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 28, 2015
And yes, I love the BREAKING on the tweet... so dramatic Kenny. Here's trade info:
The Blue Jays get Troy Tulowitzki and LaTroy Hawkins. The Rockies get Jose Reyes and minor leaguers, one being righty pitcher and prospect Miguel Castro and the other is righty pitcher Jeff Hoffman.
And here's why I don't get it. The Rockies essentially got nothing out of this except for a few prospects that are guesses at this point and more years of rebuilding and trying to become a contender. The Blue Jays I assume were concerned about the Yankees making a blockbuster deal for Tulo or some top starting pitching and now the Jays will attempt to try and take the AL East with Troy Tulowitzki.
There is no question though that the Yankees are not willing to give up Judge, Severino and Bird, and you and I both know that's what Rockies wanted for Tulo. That's why nothing happened with the Yankees... bottom line. If you are pissed the Jays got Tulo, don't be. Cashman has another plan... plus he preserved our youth. Applaud that.
And finally...here's the biggest question.... LaTroy Hawkins is still playing????

ARLINGTON BLASTS
I assumed Alex Rodriguez would do something big last night. I honestly didn't think Didi would, but no one did. It were a few homers that put the Yankees ahead of the Rangers last night and alot of clutch hitting... and we just keep on rolling, this time it was in Arlington.
Ivan Nova took the mound for New York and went 5 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs and struck out 3. The Rangers would not score again off of Shreve, Wilson and Betances.
In fact, big 'ups' to Shreve, the guy has been everything we could have asked for... and more. Don't forget, we got him in the Manny Banuelos for David Carpenter trade. Carp is gone... Shreve is killing it for us. Love that!
The Yankee run scoring went like this:
In the 3rd, it was Didi who hit a 2 run home run. That was followed by Chris Young who sacrificed home a run.
Then, in the 6th, it was the Alex Rodriguez '40th birthday' shot heard 'round the world. After that, Didi came up in the 7th and singled home 2 more runs. Beautiful.
The Yankees beat the Rangers. They're looking real good. Keep it up!

YANKS NOT 'IMMEDIATELY IN' ON SAMARDZIJA
but I would suggest that's going to change.
According to CSN's Dan Hayes, it looks like the Toronto Blue Jays are in on Jeff Samardzija as of right now:
That brings me to my concern about the recent call up and then send down of Rob Refsnyder. It is my oopinion that that was a "dangling", if you will.
It was almost like a showcase, trust me, the Yankees do this often. I firmly believe the Yankees are done with Refsnyder, mainly because they need trade bait and are not willing to part with the big three. That being said, Ref is not enough to get someone like Samardzija to the Bronx... but Ref is, in my opinion a trading chip. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
Cashman's gotta be smart here. I can't wait to see what happens next with Samardzija.

Have heard #BlueJays continue to make biggest push for Jeff Samardzija and that #SFGiants have checked in. No word on any names. #WhiteSox
— Dan Hayes (@CSNHayes) July 27, 2015
Now the Yankees have checked in on Samardzija here and there, but as you know, the White Sox and any teams the Yanks will be doing business with this deadline are going to want Yankees top talent... Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Luis Severino. That brings me to my concern about the recent call up and then send down of Rob Refsnyder. It is my oopinion that that was a "dangling", if you will.

KEEP AN EYE ON EDWIN JACKSON...
Why you ask? I'll tell you. The Yankees like him and something just happened. Edwin Jackson was released by the Cubs.
Carrie Muskat of MLB.com just reported this:
Edwin Jackson officially released. #Cubs
— Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) July 27, 2015
As you know, the Yanks have been "kicking the tires" on Jackson for years. There is no reason why they won't be calling his agent right now. They could sign him cheap, he'd be a rental and they wouldn't be giving any prospects to do it.Watch ladies and gentlemen... watch.
