WE STILL FIGHT, EVEN WHEN WE'RE DOWN!

Yup... now our second ace is out.  The Yankees are in desperate need to re-group and we must, there is no question about it.  The pitching situation is less than brilliant right now. The hitting is not consistent. But as fans, we have 1 job... and it's an important one...  WE DON'T GIVE UP!

When you look at these guys, the troops who have been through the worst of it this season, but still dealing while their brothers are dropping like flies, I applaud them. They show up to the ballpark every day, ready to give it their all because their club has called on them. Well, as a fan, I am commanding you, no matter how bad or how hard it gets, we can't give up on this club.

David Phelps. Zoilo Almonte. Brett Gardner. Dellin Betances. Derek Jeter. Even newly called up Jim Miller... more on him in a second. The point is, these men want to win. They stand tall, they fight, and they are doing all they can, but sometimes, when your fellow soldier is down it ain't easy. For the Yankees, there are many soldiers down.  But here's the thing, the players we have don't stop showing up. They have a job to do and dammit, they're doing what they can. Sooner or later, I believe that confidence, that fight can help us.  Unfortunately, tonight was terrible, but it will change... I feel it.

David Phelps went hard tonight. I tip my cap, he's coming into his own.  6 innings, allowed 7 hits and 2 runs.  The wheels fell off for the bullpen after that, and I almost don't want to get down on the pen, because they've been great all year, but tonight, they shit the bed. They know it, and they also know they can't let it happen again.  Matt Thornton gave up 2 runs.  Jim Miller, God bless him, gave up 5.

I can't even get down on Miller, the guy's a gamer, and tonight, he just had a bad game. I don't fault him tonight... I refuse to, unless it continues.  Miller will turn it around. Unfortunately, we needed him strong tonight, but he just didn't have it.

The Yankees had 11 hits.  You'd expect more than 3 runs, but that didn't happen. Once again the hitting and run scoring was flat. We left 11 on base.  It's a problem... a major problem.

In the 4th, rookie Zelous Wheeler homered.  It's his second since he's been up. It was a 2 run shot.  In the 5th, Yangervis Solarte singled knocking in Francisco Cervelli.

Final: Indians 9 - Yankees 3

Finally, 3 things to think about;

1. As a fan, we need to stand with our club. I remember doing it in the 80's when we were terrible. But game after game, I rooted because I believed.  We shouldn't give up now, we can't. We're Yankee fans.

2. Why are the Yankees pitchers having so much trouble with injury? Is it the strength training? Is it lack of conditioning? Is it pitching coach Larry Rothschild? The Yankees don't have this much bad luck unless something is attached to it.  What is it?

3. The Yankees need a lesson in Money ball.  You can't leave men on base as much as we're doing.  We can't NOT knock runs home. Kevin Long needs to be re-evaluated.  Sure, big time hitters need to swing their own bats, but trainers see things that big time hitters DON'T see when they're in their same routine.

There are people that get paid a helluva lot of money to problem solve a situation like hitting and pitching on a club. We need to find out who that is, fire them, and get someone in house to fix it.  That's my take anyway.

Stay strong Yankee fans... this is a rough patch, but we're in it together.

THE YANKEES & THE PANAMA SERIES

This is a cool little thing that the Yankees are doing in Mariano Rivera's native Panama.  There will be a series in Panama and the Yanks have set their roster for the series. They'll be playing the Marlins in what is being called the "Legends Series" on the 15th of March.

According to Paul Hagen of MLB.com, the roster the Yanks are taking there is as follows:

"The complete Panama roster:

Pitchers: Cesar Cabral, Robert Coello, Preston Claiborne, Matt Daley, Chris Leroux, Jim Miller, David Robertson, Sabathia, Yoshinori Tateyama, Warren, Chase Whitley

Catchers: Cervelli, Jose Gil, John Ryan Murphy, Gary Sanchez

Infielders: Dean Anna, Jeter, Corban Joseph, Jose Pirela, Yangervis Solarte, Zelous Wheeler

Outfielders: Zoilo Almonte, Carlos Beltran, Adonis Garcia, Brett Gardner, Antoan Richardson, Alfonso Soriano"

Joe Girardi said he wanted Brian McCann to stay back to prep for the regular season.  "I just thought it worked better if [McCann] stayed here seeing our starters." OK. Makes sense.

Joe also spoke of the Panama series:  "We know what the Yankees mean to Mo, and we know what his country means. To be able to combine the two is really special. Because Mo goes home every winter and sees family. He loved his time there...For me, if I was ever able to bring the Yankees to East Peoria, Illinois, it would be a huge deal to me. Right? And that's in the same country. So it is a huge deal."

Even yesterday, Dean Anna tweeted about Panama:

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH DEAN ANNA?

Anyway, not to get off track, I just wanted to keep you in the loop on Panama. It's historic and something that's happening. I'm glad they could do something like this.

JIM MILLER TRAVELS AGAIN

A few weeks ago, Jim Miller was relaxing in Virginia when he got the call that the Yankees needed him.  That was reported by several sources.  Here is Ken Rosenthal:
Then after his outing, he remained in the Bronx with his 1 game and 20.25 ERA... until now.  It's being reported that Miller has been outrighted and will go to AAA Scranton Wilkes Barre. Read HERE.

Just wanted to keep you in the loop.  Enjoy today.

TOE TAG THE YANKEES... THEY'RE DONE

I'm a Yankee fan, a Yankee fanatic, but how many obstacles do the baseball Gods need to put in our way this season?  Look, I'm a believer and I know you are too.  But after a while, you need to start to wonder if you're believing in the guys on the field this year or are you really believing in the greatness of Yankee teams of the past.  You know what I mean?

Today was brutal. Yesterday was. In fact, the Red Sox have scored 34 runs against the Yankees in 3 days.  We have no pitching.  We have hurt pitchers in Boone Logan and David Robertson.  We've discovered that David Huff plays the role of Phil Hughes worse than Phil Hughes does, and now the ultimate blow that will certainly cement doubt in many Yankee fans' minds... Derek Jeter's ankle is tender.

Now, while the MRI was negative, they are still sending the info to his ankle doc in Charlotte, read HERE.  But man oh man, we've literally hit rock bottom.

The Yankees lost 13-9 today.  You could probably stop reading here.  It's miserable and furthermore, embarrassing.  David Huff started today and lasted 3.1 innings. He gave up 8 hits and 9 runs.  At that point, it was pretty much the end for me... I was pissed.

Jim Miller came in and I was thrilled to see him in the Bigs, but he gave up 3 runs himself.   Hey look, it's his first relief appearance of the year in a mop-up role... how would you do? I don't fault Miller today. I do wonder though if the Yankees can get their pitching rested at some point and at the same time, still win.  It's going to be a struggle...it really is.  Brett Marshall followed Miller.  He went 4.1 innings and gave up 1 run.

The hitting and run scoring for the Yanks was impressive, but playing catch-up never works and it definitely doesn't work with the Red Sox as your opponent. They're too strong and they're doing everything right this season.

Here's how we did:  In the bottom of the 2nd, Lyle Overbay singled and hit in Alfonso Soriano.  Then, in the 3rd, Robinson Cano knocked in a run on a single.  In the 4th, Ichiro Suzuki doubled and hit in Eduardo Nunez.  In the 6th, there was hope... Brett Gardner doubled and knocked in 2.

Then, Derek Jeter singled in Gardner. Girardi didn't like the way he saw Jeet running, so he pulled him.  Smartest move Girardi's made in this series. Anyway, shortly after, Soriano knocked in another run. In the 8th, Mark Reynolds doubled and knocked in JR Murphy and Brett Gardner.  And there you have it... run scoring... but catch-up.   I hate that.

Final: Red Sox 13 - Yankees 9.

Now... are the Yankees truly done? No, but for the love of God, we've been playing horribly right now.  Just when you think a nice winning streak will latch on... the pitching suddenly can't handle it.  Real good clubs play as a team. Momentum and confidence are key.  We have neither right now... and we better find it fast because it's getting late early.

PLAYING SHUFFLEBOARD WITH THE YANKEES

Quick note in Yankeeland... sometimes making moves affect other moves and so things need to be shuffled around...no big deal, just the nature of the business.

First off, we know that Mariano Rivera is coming back to the Yankees signing a 1 year deal, read HERE.We wrote about that yesterday.
(In Photo: Jim Miller)
Next the Yankees picked up Jim Miller, a right handed pitcher off waivers from the Oakland Athletics. Alittle background on Miller; He's 30.  He's a fastball and slider pitcher that posted a 2.59 ERA in 48.2 innings for the A's in 2012. OK, then what?
(In Photo: Jayson Nix)
Then, the Yanks avoided arbitration with infielder Jayson Nix signing him to a $900,000. But to make room on the 40 man roster, the Yankees then had to then designate Nix and Mickey Storey, (read about Mickey HERE) for assignment. Nix accepted his move to AAA and so, according to Chad Jennings at LoHud (HERE), "Basically, if he clears, he’ll come to Yankees camp as a non-roster invitee with a chance to win back his utility job."

Alot of moving and organizing going on in the Bronx.  We just wanted to keep you in the loop. Next up... we need a catcher.

Please comment, we have DISQUS, it's easier than ever. Let me know what you think and follow me on Twitter @BleednYankeeBlu and join the group Bleeding Yankee Blue on Facebook, just type it in.
