TOE TAG THE YANKEES... THEY'RE DONE

I'm a Yankee fan, a Yankee fanatic, but how many obstacles do the baseball Gods need to put in our way this season?  Look, I'm a believer and I know you are too.  But after a while, you need to start to wonder if you're believing in the guys on the field this year or are you really believing in the greatness of Yankee teams of the past.  You know what I mean?

Today was brutal. Yesterday was. In fact, the Red Sox have scored 34 runs against the Yankees in 3 days.  We have no pitching.  We have hurt pitchers in Boone Logan and David Robertson.  We've discovered that David Huff plays the role of Phil Hughes worse than Phil Hughes does, and now the ultimate blow that will certainly cement doubt in many Yankee fans' minds... Derek Jeter's ankle is tender.

Now, while the MRI was negative, they are still sending the info to his ankle doc in Charlotte, read HERE.  But man oh man, we've literally hit rock bottom.

The Yankees lost 13-9 today.  You could probably stop reading here.  It's miserable and furthermore, embarrassing.  David Huff started today and lasted 3.1 innings. He gave up 8 hits and 9 runs.  At that point, it was pretty much the end for me... I was pissed.

Jim Miller came in and I was thrilled to see him in the Bigs, but he gave up 3 runs himself.   Hey look, it's his first relief appearance of the year in a mop-up role... how would you do? I don't fault Miller today. I do wonder though if the Yankees can get their pitching rested at some point and at the same time, still win.  It's going to be a struggle...it really is.  Brett Marshall followed Miller.  He went 4.1 innings and gave up 1 run.

The hitting and run scoring for the Yanks was impressive, but playing catch-up never works and it definitely doesn't work with the Red Sox as your opponent. They're too strong and they're doing everything right this season.

Here's how we did:  In the bottom of the 2nd, Lyle Overbay singled and hit in Alfonso Soriano.  Then, in the 3rd, Robinson Cano knocked in a run on a single.  In the 4th, Ichiro Suzuki doubled and hit in Eduardo Nunez.  In the 6th, there was hope... Brett Gardner doubled and knocked in 2.

Then, Derek Jeter singled in Gardner. Girardi didn't like the way he saw Jeet running, so he pulled him.  Smartest move Girardi's made in this series. Anyway, shortly after, Soriano knocked in another run. In the 8th, Mark Reynolds doubled and knocked in JR Murphy and Brett Gardner.  And there you have it... run scoring... but catch-up.   I hate that.

Final: Red Sox 13 - Yankees 9.

Now... are the Yankees truly done? No, but for the love of God, we've been playing horribly right now.  Just when you think a nice winning streak will latch on... the pitching suddenly can't handle it.  Real good clubs play as a team. Momentum and confidence are key.  We have neither right now... and we better find it fast because it's getting late early.
