THE YANKEES AREN'T FOOLING ANYONE, AARON JUDGE ISN'T OKAY!

The Yankees just won 4-of-6 on a difficult stretch against the Houston Asstros and Toronto Blue Jays and as happy as I am about that, I'm worried about something else. The series wins were nice, but we got our first glimpse of Aaron Judge back in the outfield and....it wasn't great.

Friday was Judge's first game playing the outfield since July 25th, and the Blue Jays wasted no time testing his arm out there. It took no time at all for them to see that Judge wasn't his usual self out there. The Jays had the bases loaded and two outs when a ball was hit into right field. By the time Judge fielded the ball, Daulton Varsho was on second base and was waved home by the Jays third-base coach. It's a ballsy move when Judge is healthy because he can gun down almost anyone out there. Few outfielders have a better arm but Judge isn't healthy as we could see. Instead of throwing home, he lobbed a throw to cutoff man Jazz Chisholm Jr who was in close proximity to Judge instead of throwing home which allowed the Blue Jays to score an additional run.

The Jays weren't sure which version of Judge they were going to see out there and wanted to test it. "There was a little bit of unknown with how he was going to respond," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said HERE. "He's got a great arm. At that point, it's Varsho at second, so you don't really know because he can run. But we wanted to test it." Clearly it worked well for them.

Sunday we saw similar plays. In the second inning, another fly ball was hit to Judge. This time, Judge threw to Anthony Volpe instead of throwing home. Later in the inning, another fly ball was hit and Judge lobbed it to Chisholm again. Judge claims his thought process was to just get the ball in as quick as possible by using the cutoff man, which leads a lot of us to ask if he is physically capable of making the throw.

It's a fair question to ask. If he can make the throw, why isn't he? And if he can't make the throw then why is he out there? It's the Yankees trying to get creative to get Judge back in the outfield. We all want to see Judge back in the outfield, but considering Aaron Boone said "I don't think we’re going to see him back to throwing like he normally does at any point this year," just three weeks ago, check it our HERE if you missed it. Then he tried to walk it back the same day and said "Maybe that's a little (overstated)." It's concerning and infuriating.

So after two nights in the outfield, Boone's comments seem to be correct. Judge is clearly not at full strength, and the Yankees are trying to get cute and creative at this point. The Blue Jays exposed it first, and now it could really bite the Yankees in the ass....especially if playing Judge in the outfield makes this injury worse.

The Yankees hope he can get back to as close to 100% as possible over the coming weeks. In the mean time though, Boone is gonna give soundbites like "We're handling it how we handle it, OK?" and hope and pray for a miracle....because that's what the Yankees do.

WHAT WASN'T LEFT UNDER THE YANKEES CHRISTMAS TREE - NOW WHAT?

Happy Day after Christmas, BYB family! Santa has come, the presents are unwrapped and we as Yankee fans have a lot to look forward to next season. I feel blessed, and I am looking forward to what comes next. There is a next according to Hal Steinbrenner. Now we can all wonder what that is exactly.

It was nice to get Aaron Judge and Carlos Rodon as early holiday presents. It was also nice to see the Mets swoop in and offer Carlos Correa a deal after the Giants got some cold feet only to watch the Mets raise their own concerns. It couldn't happen to a more deserving cheater. I know some people out there like Correa and have forgiven but I am not one of those people and I never will be. I'm just glad he was never going to be under the Yankees holiday tree.

There are two names I recently wrote about that also weren't under the Yankees holiday tree and have new homes now. One name I wish was a Yankee holiday present and one not so much. I know the Yankees need outfield help and I know they were tied to Michael Conforto but I was never sold on him. He missed all of last season after having right shoulder surgery and that's a tough injury to come back from. He hasn't been a consistent and productive player in a while, and I didn't think the Yankees needed to pay him a short-term high dollar deal in hopes that it works out. That's exactly what happened, Scott Boras worked his magic and now the Giants can take on that risk. There are other options out there, and Brian Cashman will find them.

I wish the other option could have included Daulton Varsho, I even said he was THE ELITE OUTFIELDER THE YANKEES NEED TO GET NOW! and the Blue Jays obviously knew it too. Now I get to watch him play for a division rival and write about what the Yankees should have had. An elite defensive outfielder with a left-handed bat and power doesn't come along every day. I'm not gonna lie, it stings a little. Plugging him into our outfield would have been a game changer. Now I get to sit back and wonder about what could've been. It's hard not to get excited and passionate about baseball.... this was a move I really wanted to happen. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be now I have to patiently wait to see what is.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and friends. I hope the rest of the holiday season brings you joy and I hope there are some more surprises that come our way soon.

THE ELITE OUTFIELDER THE YANKEES NEED TO GET NOW!

I like to dream big. That being said...I am dreaming REALLY big right now. I say go big or go home, and if the Yankees traded for my pick of a new outfielder, they would make a BIG upgrade that could possibly bring home our next championship.

To say I am over Aaron Hicks is the understatement of the century. He is an epic waste of money and a failure. We also can't forget Jacoby Ellsbury, that's a nightmare I won't soon forget. Brian Cashman has pulled the trigger on some questionable outfielders so the way I see it.... I can't do much worse.

Cashman needs to pick up the phone and give Mike Hazan in Arizona a call. Other teams are doing it, especially after Hazan said he would entertain the idea of moving some of his outfielders at the winter meetings. Just start a conversation, it can't hurt. They have depth in the outfield, and they also have a guy perfect for us.

The Diamondbacks have a few intriguing names, but I'm most interested in Daulton Varsho. He's 26, a lefty, has some nice pop, can steal and he's an amazing defender. His batting average may not be impressive, but the 27 home runs and 16 steals and 74 RBI's would be a nice addition to our lineup. The Yankees can work on his batting average and on base percentage, but he has a natural talent, and his glove is golden.

I mean Golden quite literally. He has already proven to be an elite defender. I've never been a huge believer in WAR but even those stats don't lie. He has the highest Outs Above Average among ALL outfielders in baseball and was second in Defensive Runs Saved. He's a lot of fun to watch in the outfield, he makes plays that make your jaw drop.

And jaw dropping is what the Yankees could be with an outfield of Harrison Bader, Varsho and Aaron Judge. That would be ELITE in baseball, and it is fun to think about. It would also be costly for the Yankees. Out of all of the Diamondbacks outfielders, Varsho has the most experience. He played in 151 games last season AND can even play catcher in a pitch. He actually caught a no-hitter for the Dbacks back in 2021....I kick myself because my family got to watch the game in person while I sat at home. The Dbacks are going to want a lot for him.... but it's worth a conversation. Varsho has four years of club control left and he's going to be arbitration eligible next winter so he's about to become very expensive and the Dbacks have plenty of depth so that could be motivation to move him.

I'm not gonna lie...I know the Yankees are concentrating on more pitching right now, but it is hard not to get excited about Varsho and what our outfield COULD look like. The Astros are also rumored to be interested in Varsho also....and I hate that idea. If he's gonna be dealt, PLEASE let him come our way. Varsho could be a game changer; in fact I'd bet on it.
