GLEYBER CLAPS BACK AT CASHMAN

Let’s be clear—I like Gleyber Torres. I back the Yankees all the way, and I want to see Torres succeed in Detroit. But at the end of the day, baseball isn’t about personal comfort; it’s about doing what’s best for the team. And if the team needs you at third, well...you go play third.

That’s what Jazz Chisholm did when he arrived in the Bronx. No hesitation, no complaints—just a guy willing to step up and do what needed to be done. That’s how winning teams operate. But if it’s true that Gleyber resisted moving to third base last season, that’s a bad look. The reports were out there and I never knew it was true or not.  I still don't other than what Cashman said.

Brian Cashman shed some light on the situation:

"When I acquired Jazz, I acquired Jazz to be our second baseman and move Gleyber to third the rest of last year. Boonie wanted to do it the other way. He moved Jazz to third after we got him and Gleyber to second because Gleyber didn't want to move to third, (he) was unwilling."

Now, fast forward to Gleyber. Maybe Torres was watching YES Network. Maybe he was scrolling through social media. Either way, he clearly caught wind of the conversation because, less than an hour later, he fired off a tweet that felt like a direct response to the renewed criticism:

"Still ? 😴😂 just turn 🗒️," he posted.

Look, I don’t blame Torres for clapping back. He’s been an easy target in recent years, often catching heat while other Yankees have skated by without public accountability. But the bottom line is this: championship-caliber teams need guys who put the squad first, no matter where they’re asked to play. And if the Yankees saw third base as Gleyber’s best fit at the time, he should’ve taken the challenge head-on. I back Cash on that.

I’m still backing Gleyber too however. I love the dude. I still believe in his talent. But moving forward, the expectation should be clear—when the team needs you somewhere, you go. No questions, no hesitation. That’s how you win in New York.

At the end of the day Gleyber is a Tiger and I hope he explodes there and becomes a fan favorite!
