"Look, great job of almost grabbing it..."
--Aaron Boone after being walked off by the Royals
June 13, 2024
No journalist, beat writer, commentator is going to tell you the truth about the dimbulb. But I will. Aaron Boone is not a good manager, and his word salad just adds insult to injury.
The Yankees lost today and that happens, but for the life of me I will never understand why in the world the Yankees organization puts Boone out there to ever talk to the press. He is dumb, bad at media training, horrendous at making a meaningful sentence and just doesn't belong there. Almost isn't sports. You either win or you lose. Sure, teams won't win every time, but managers can and should never brush is off at "almost got'em". It's pathetic.
If you didn't know, the Yankees lost to the Royals, but could have swept them in the series. MLB.com writes:
The Bronx Bombers couldn’t complete their first four-game sweep at The K in franchise history, but they outscored Kansas City 28-12 and led for 28 of the 36 innings. Thursday ended on a sour note, but the Yankees played their game -- and put the ball into the hands of the one they trust most.
“All the confidence in the world [in Holmes]. Clay’s our closer,” Cortes said. “He’s done this for a few years, and he’s really good. Stuff is going to happen here and there. … [We hope he] keeps on pitching the way he’s been pitching.”
Look at Nestor's quote. Look how confident it is. "Clay's our closer" and "All the confidence in the world". Stuff like that is what fans love. "Almost?"
Nestor's media trained. His own manager is not.
Bottom line? The Yankees lost, but they will return hard in the Red Sox series. Don't you worry.
