The Yankees were just swept by the Braves and they have lost five in a row. When Judge spoke to the media last night, he sounded like an Aaron Boone clone. He tried to sound like a Captain, but all I heard, and saw was Baboone.
By the way, this is the day after he said "we're not showing up," read more HERE. Now everything is "right in front" of the Yankees. PLEASE someone make it make sense!
So when exactly does the streak start? We've been watching all season, and there's been a large sample size of bad versus good. We have 41 games left, that's not a lot of time for a streak and to gain ground when they are 6.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot. This team is not mathematically eliminated from a Wild Card spot but that win streak needs to be like a 30-11 record in the final games to land close to 90 wins. This just isn't a 90-win team. They are very uninspired, can't hit and have lost all of their mojo. Never say never but.... this is a VERY tall mountain to climb.
Judge is flexing his Captain muscles; I just don't think it worked last night. He sounded like Baboone the terrible manager and I just don't like it. He'll find his own voice, hopefully faster than the Yankees remember how to play ball and win again. We expect Judge to be a leader and a motivator in the clubhouse, we just want him to find his way in his own words rather than following in Baboone's failures and being his personal parrot. Baboone is a clown, and Judge doesn't need to be his side show.
He is right though; it is right in front of them.... but we are probably talking about a different "it" and in this case I am talking about five straight loses. That's front and center and it can't be ignored. The Yankees record can't be ignored. We are now under .500 and it is the first time since 1995 that we have been in this position. The Yankees are 24-36 (.400) in their last 60 games. It is their worst 60-game stretch in a season since June-August 1992. This is a team that is unrecognizable, and the hard facts don't lie.
