You know how much we love Tyler Austin here at Bleeding Yankee Blue. And by now you know Tyler Austin is totally raking for Team USA in this Olympic games. It is so good to see.
The New York Post writes:
"Austin has raked at the plate throughout the 2020 Olympics to help lead the United States to the baseball gold medal game against Japan. In the tournament, he’s hitting a team-leading .429 with a .941 slugging percentage, crushing 10 homers with 13 RBIs.
Austin will try to continue his hot streak on Saturday when Team USA team looks for redemption against Japan in the gold medal game."
My 18 year old said it best...
"They're letting this team just play baseball. No micro managing, no noise in these player's heads, and clearly Austin's. He's just getting out there and playing ball the way he knows how. He's gonna be the hero and that is awesome. He earned that. He's a leader."
USA Today writes:
Except maybe these hushed celebrations, emanating from volunteers working these Tokyo Olympics, in the fifth inning of Team USA's 3-1 victory over the Dominican Republic on Wednesday were permissible.
How often can you root for a hometown team favorite in the Olympics anyway?
The clapping occurred after Tyler Austin hit his third home run of the Olympics to make it 3-0 with a solo shot to dead center that cleared the five-meter (16-plus feet) wall.
Although he's established himself as one of the United States' most reliable presences in the lineup during this tournament, it was just another day at the office for Austin — literally. He's in his second season with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, which call Yokohama Baseball Stadium home, of the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization's Central League...
Indeed, after his home run on Wednesday – as those upstairs cheered – Austin jumped into two "elbow-fives" and had to catch his helmet while landing.
"I love our group," he said. "
Let the kid's play... let guys like Tyler Austin have his moment. It makes us over at BYB proud!
Gold medal game is next! Let's go Team USA!
