THE YANKEES LIED ABOUT DOMINGO GERMAN'S FUTURE

It's the end of 2020 and we are still talking about Domingo German and his suspension. He's served his suspension and I hope he has learned his lesson. Now we have to wait and see if the Yankees want to include him in their future plans....or so they want you to believe.

I believe that is a big fat lie, personally. Back in October the rumor was that HAL STEINBRENNER WON'T COMMIT TO DOMINGO GERMAN FOR 2021 and I didn't believe the hype back then, and I still don't. In fact, I am more convinced it was just smoke and mirrors because the Yankees of course are going to do and say anything to protect themselves in this situation.

But it was all a lie. I never believed the Yankees wouldn't commit to German and now I am even more confident that they will. If they don't that is unfair and inconsistent with how they handled Chapman.

Think about it, in October of 2015 Aroldis Chapman had his own experience with domestic violence when he was with the Reds. His girlfriend accused him of pushing and choking her before he fired his gun eight times in his garage. The Yankees liked him enough to trade for him when he was with the Cubs and then re-sign him when he hit free agency. Sure, Chapman wasn't a Yankee yet so it wasn't a "Yankee problem" but it's still a moral or an ethics issue for them either way.

After Chapman signed with the Yankees, Hal Steinbrenner thought everyone would just forget about Chapman's past, read more HERE.
"Quite frankly it was manageable the minute he got here last year. He was great. Look, he admitted he messed up. He paid the penalty. Sooner or later, we forget, right? That’s the way we’re supposed to be in life. He did everything right, and said everything right, when he was with us."

And there you have it. Chapman admitted he messed up, served his suspension and we move on because that's life. So Steinbrenner should have the same opinion with German. Aaron Boone said he and Brian Cashman met with German and gave their expectations....so now Steinbrenner can have his meeting that he said he wanted in October and do the same or he will look foolish.

At the end of the day I think we will see German pitch for us this season. Not just because the Yankees gave Chapman his second chance and they would look foolish not to do the same for German....but the Yankees are penny pinchers right now. They need rotation help, they aren't looking to spend a lot of money, German is cheap and they have few options after Gerrit Cole.

So pick whichever reason is easier to believe. Is it money and desperation or are the Yankees generous and willing to give German a second chance? Either way....there's no reason to believe the Yankees won't commit to German. I don't care what rubbish Hal said before.

  1. Chapman will be converted to a starter, negating a big expenditure for another starter. Cole, Chapman, German, Montgomery and Garcia round out the rotation with Severino coming back as an opener for 2nd half of 2021 season.
