Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. Okay, now that I am breathing with force, my feelings are similar to how they were when I last wrote: I AM NOT OVER IT - NOT SURE IF I EVER WILL BE but now with just a bit more expression. Aaron Boone will be here another year and that's just not helping my mood.
"Aaron Boone will be back next year. That's just a fact," Steinbrenner said on Michael Kay's ESPN radio show Tuesday afternoon. I could barely speak, let alone breathe. It is amazing. A guy who can't manage pitchers is coming back in 2021. Great. Awesome. Terrific.
According to CBS Sports, "The Yankees with their strong core and vast resources are poised to remain contenders for the foreseeable future... the Yankees have another two years to win with the current core. For Boone to remain the dugout throughout that window and beyond, he may need to guide his team deeper into the postseason in 2021." I would say, that should have been the decision this year. Let's face it, Boone has failed to have his team advance since arriving here. And he was hired for one thing: Lead A Championship Team! The Yankees have the fixtures, they need leadership. And Boone ain't it.
Ken Davidoff perhaps said it best, "So not only must Boone direct his Yankees into the playoffs next year, but he must excel with at least a sound process, if not ideal results, when he arrives there. Fair enough? It’s like that T-shirt slogan: “Keep Calm and Don’t Screw Up.” It sounds like a doable task for a good baseball man." So okay, let's do this and get some help next time, okay Bonehead, I mean Boone. Ask for help and learn, Aaron. It is the only way we have a chance next year.
