VOIT & THE CORTISONE SHOT

Luke Voit is out with a sports hernia.  I never knew why they called it a sports hernia. A hernia is a hernia. If it keeps you from working... if it keeps you from playing... it's a damn hernia, but whatever.

Over the past week there has been a ton of debate as to if this guy's gonna need surgery. If that were to happen, he'd be out and that would suck. But now comes word that we're taking the whole sports hernia thing day by day.  Why? A cortisone shot.  It's that magic medicine that keeps player's playing.

"Luke Voit said late Friday that he feels better now that he has had a cortisone shot to help treat a sports hernia, but he remains unsure about whether he'll need a surgery to completely alleviate the issue.

Voit and the Yankees are planning to see how the shot takes effect within the next week before determining exactly what course of rehab action will come next. 'I trust what these guys are saying, and if after a week I don't feel like I should do [the surgery], I always have a chance to come back for the playoff run,' Voit said.

If Voit, 28, does undergo the surgery, his recovery from the injury would end up taking longer than if he lets the hernia heal with rest and simple rehab. As Yankees general manager Brian Cashman pointed out Wednesday, after surgery Voit would be down for six weeks before also having to get back up to baseball speed on a rehab assignment for another couple of weeks after that.

That timetable would put his return somewhere close to the start of the postseason."

Essentially it's a test.  In the end, I think the dude's gonna need surgery. Not too easy to play with a hernia, I don't care what you're shooting into the body. And yes, Voit is a machine, but that can stop any player, trust me.

  1. Just let the guy get surgery...we don't him suspended later on for PED violation because he was trying to rush back
