OH GOODY! CASTILLO SIGNS WITH THE YANKEES!

I guess the idea that Austin Romine is a lock for the back up catching position is exactly a reality. Well... kind of I guess. I mean yes, Romine is most likely the man but the Yankees also have Kyle Higashioka as an option. The reality is Romine's put in the time and it was just assumed for a while now that he would be the guy behind Gary Sanchez.  Well, the Yankees and Girardi like competition at spots... and they added a catcher to spice it up.

Jon Heyman has the story:

"...veteran catcher Wilkin Castillo has signed minor league contract with the New York Yankees. However, Castillo has failed to appear in a single big league game since all the way back in 2009....Upon arriving to the “Big Apple,” he will likely suit up for either Double-A Trenton or Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as he is unlikely to see any playing time atop the major leagues."

But as I stated, competition and working with each other at Yankees Spring Training for all these guys is a great thing. Plus, you just never know what can happen, and while Heyman is right about Castillo probably sticking to the minor leagues, stranger things have happened.

Anyone remember Wil Nieves?
