Just a quick observation on Alex Rodriguez...
A year ago Alex showed up to Spring Training a few days early, and the media went ape-shit. So much so that Alex actually issued an apology for showing up early. Could you imagine apologizing for showing up to work? Bizarre and completely absurd!
But it's interesting to see how Alex has been portrayed in the media since then. In fact, he's almost completely absent from the spotlight these days.
Admittedly, a lot of this has to do with new teammate, Aroldis Chapman. Chapman is currently under investigation by the MLB for domestic violence allegations. The police report stated that on October 30th, Chapman choked his girlfriend, and fired off 8 gunshots in his garage. The Florida state police investigated, but no charges were pressed. The MLB, however, performs it's own investigation under it's domestic violence policy. Right now, we're waiting to see how the MLB handles this. In the meantime, the media has been all over Chapman.
But that is not to discredit Alex's own contributions to the media easing up on him. 2015 was a phenomenal season for him. Better than anyone expected. He kept his head down, his nose clean, and did everything pretty much by the books. It's been a lot like the Prodigal Son.
With Alex being the new "Golden boy," the New York media needs someone to give them controversy. Unfortunately for Chapman, he's that guy.
Don't worry, Chapman. Alex understands your woes...
