URGENT! COULD BETANCES BE ON THE AUCTION BLOCK?

I repeat! Urgent! Could Betances be on the auction block?  Just uttering those words makes me nervous!  I mean, Dellin Betances has been the only bright light on the Yankee team since the departure of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.  And now, there are grumblings about his departure from our growing bullpen and team to entice a big name starter to our rotation.

"With so many question marks in the rotation, it is critical that Cashman trade one of his arms before the start of the season, with Chapman’s fellow relievers in Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances being the two prime candidates to be moved.  From a financial standpoint, Betances is the better-looking trade chip," according to Josh Benjamin, a contributing writer at Forbes Magazine.  Oh God, please tell me that this won't happen!

Betances posted a 1.44 ERA and 266 strikeouts in 174 innings to go with 10 saves over the two years since he has worked as a reliever for us in the bull pen.  He will only be 28 by the time the 2016 season begins and has a lot of life and pitches left in him.

When we interviewed Mo at the Trenton Thunder a couple of years ago after his final season in pinstripes, Rivera eloquently revered Betances as our future.  Betances isn't a PowerBall ticket that you can just shop around; he is the real deal and the Yankees would be fools to even consider a trade that would include him.  Unlike PowerBall, we know what we are getting with Betances.  He is coachable, he is smart, he is focused and we are comfortable with him.  He is a fan favorite and he should not be on the auction block.

Shortly after the trade for Aroldis Chapman, The YES Network’s Jack Curry, reported that Brian Cashman "said he called Miller shortly after the news broke and said he intends to keep all three relievers." This was back on December 28th.  Only a few weeks later, the Yankees could be changing their tune.

It comes down to risk versus reward.  We know what we have in Betances and his potential has been forecasted by Yankee management, scouts, Rivera himself and fans near and far.  The only sense of urgency I see is that we do everything in our power to keep Betances and allow him to find and reach his potential as a New York Yankee.
