COMING UP SHORT IN HOUSTON

We could have had a win.  We probably should have... but the reality is, we didn't look like a very good team in Houston at all this series.

Michael Pineda looked great yesterday. He threw 8 innings, giving up 7 hits 3 runs, 2 of them earned and struck out 8. He was cruising. Here's the issue...

While Collin McHugh pitched similarly, the Astros were able to help their pitcher out.  The Yankees scored 1 run and only had 2 hits all game. By the way, that run came in the 3rd when Brett Gardner singled to knock in Stephen Drew.  That was it for the Yanks.

The Astros eventually scored 3...once in the 4th, once in the 7th and once in the 8th and that was it.  The worst part was a ball falling in the outfield on a "miscommunication" between Gardy and Garrett Jones.  That play is amplified today, but the real story isn't that play as much as it is the Yanks just aren't consistently scoring runs.

Not much more to say.  Not a great series... now we move on to the Angels.  We can do better.

Final: Astros 3 - Yankees 1
