THE YANKEES: WHERE YOUTH GO TO DIE

You know, it's pretty obvious when you see who the Yankees have on their club how this season was gonna play out.  Many high priced guys that have been around baseball for a while are there, and with those guys come spots they will man for the 2015 season. That's because Yankee brass isn't going to bench a veteran that costs a crap load of dough.  That's why we saw guys like Aaron Judge and Luis Severino get sent down.

Guys who had solid springs with the Yankees... but guys that were obviously not making the club come Opening day because of those veterans.

Now comes a new tale of another kid that truly deserves a shot, but a guy who also won't be there Opening Day in my opinion.  It's Jose Pirela.

It's a great story from MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, but unfortunate... and again, it all goes back to expensive veterans who aren't going anywhere.

"Jose Pirela has enjoyed a solid spring for the Yankees, showcasing his live bat and the ability to play several positions, but manager Joe Girardi is not able to promise there will be a spot for him on the Opening Day roster. Pirela, 25, entered play on Thursday batting .391 (9-for-23) with two doubles, two triples and three RBIs in 12 Grapefruit League games. The Yankees believe that he can play all over the infield, and they will soon give him reps in center field, but it is likely that Pirela's season will begin with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre...

'I don't want to have to say that there's no chance of him making our roster, but I think [general manager] Brian [Cashman] said it, our roster was fairly set,' Girardi said."

Fairly set... really? So it's fairly set, yet I am about 80% positive Hal Steinbrenner said the Yankees were gonna use more youth.  So which is it?

Look, don't get me wrong, I love what the Yankees did this offseason. It was different, but it was a way to make our team younger-ish.  Now though, with an opportunity to introduce the next Core Four... the Yankees seem to be dragging their feet again.  All I'm saying is, why?  Give these kids a shot... somehow... some way.

An interesting nugget that I wanted to send your way.
