SHORTSTOP OPTION: EVERTH CABRERA
Didn't think about this until I saw a Facebook member of BYB write about it. Mike wrote:
"Here's a much better fit for Yanks SS. He'd cost very little and he just turned 28 in November. And he can play 2B too."
Hey Kilroe, I like where your heads at. Reading MLB Trade Rumors, this is what we can tell you about Cabrera:
"The Padres have non-tendered shortstop Everth Cabrera, the team announced...Cabrera remains an intriguing talent in spite of his issues off and on the field (.572 OPS through 391 plate appearances last year).
In 2013, by far his best season as a pro, Cabrera slashed .283/.355/.381 while swiping 37 bases and delivering solid defensive play."
Those "issues" were he was listed on the Biogenesis list. If you can get past that, Cabrera could be a good fit in the infield for the Yankees.
Let me also state that many believe that bringing back Stephen Drew to play short, using Martin Prado at 3rd and grooming Rob Refsnyder at second could work well too.
We will have to see.
Anyway, I thought it was a nice idea and wanted to share it with the BYB audience. Hey Mike Kilroe, great eye!
