PASSION-DRIVEN PRADO OUT FOR THE YEAR
Not that Martin Prado would have saved the season, but at least he was passionate and energetic and was making things happen for the Yanks. Well, the breaking news is, Martin Prado is out... DONE FOR THE YEAR. Why you ask? Check this out. You won't believe it:
"Team X-Ray took another hit Tuesday when Martin Prado, one of the few productive Yankees, underwent an appendectomy that ended his season.
'He started complaining [Monday] and after the game it got worse,’ general manager Brian Cashman said of Prado, who had two of the Yankees’ six hits in a 1-0 loss to the Rays on Monday night at Tropicana Field. “He went to the hospital after the game and had the surgery [Tuesday morning].'"
OK then. So what happens now? Well, I guess we all keep our fingers crossed and hope the others will step up.
In the meantime, the Yankees have called up Jose Pirela, a 24 year old utility man from Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
According to Brendan Kuty of the Star Ledger:
"Here's what you should know about Pirela.
ROOKIE: It's the 24-year-old's first big-league opportunity after eight seasons in the Yankees' farm system. He impressed in major-league spring training, hitting .375 in 24 at-bats.
BIG YEAR: Pirela got the call up because of his strong season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he hit .303 with 10 homers and 60 RBI and earned year-end International League All-Star honors."
Get well soon Martin! Welcome Jose.
