Well, for Masahiro Tanaka, the journey in his first year in pinstripes has been strange. He was one of the top pitchers in baseball going 12-4 this year. Then, right before the All-Star break, there was a problem, and the Yankees, protecting their investment, put him on the shelf.
Now, after a long rehab and simulation, Tanaka may almost be ready for September.
According to Craig Calcaterra of Hardball Talk, Tanaka "...tossed 49 pitches and, according to those who watched it, he utilized his entire repertoire of pitches, splitter included. His command was a bit rusty, but afterwards, the Yankees manager waxed optimistic..."
Bob Nightengale of USA Today:
Joe Girardi pleased with Tanaka's outing and says he would return only as a starter and not in relief

Look, as I've stated numerous times... don't rush the Golden Child. We have Shane Greene... We have Brandon McCarthy. Let's just take our time with Tanaka, just in case.
It's good news, but I just want them to be cautious.
