BYB EXCLUSIVE: MARIANO PROUD OF DELLIN BETANCES

I read our piece on David Robertson (THE YANKEES MIGHT BE WILLING TO PART WITH DROB), his upcoming free agency and Hardball Talk's headline Yankees missed their chance to re-sign David Robertson at a discount and I kind of got sick.

The reality is that anyone can go;  just look at Robbie Cano or now more recently the trade that sent Jon Lester to the Oakland A's. But after spending the evening with forever Yankee, Mariano Rivera, at the Double A Trenton Thunder the other night, I feel sort of calm about everything.  Firstly, Mo is such a professional and a man who mentored our 29-year-old current closer DRob.  DRob is solid and he's got an amazing future in front of him.  I want him to only find success and reach his potential much like Mo has, no matter where he pitches (but please not for the Red Sox).

Secondly, as we have said here before, when one door closes, another one opens and it could be with Dellin Betances at the helm of the bullpen, who Mo said to reporters, "has been fighting in the minor leagues for some time." Here's our soundbite from the Thunder Thursday:

Betances has worked hard and in the words of Mo, he needs stay focused and he could have a great career in front of him.  Thought this was worth sharing with you all since we heard it from Mo himself.

Stay tuned for more insights from Mo in the next few days as we bring you a story on the MVP Foundation and Mariano Rivera's philanthropies through his foundation and his newly renovated church, Refuge of Hope.
