EXPECT MCCANN TO BE A BAD ASS BEHIND THE DISH

I wanted to mention this terrific piece by Dan Martin of the New York Post about the personality of Brian McCann on the field.  It's something that can't be ignored.  McCann is tough... he's tough as nails... he's bad ass... I could go on and on.

According to Martin, "... The Bombers’ new catcher was involved in two separate incidents from behind the plate last season when he confronted Milwaukee outfielder Carlos Gomez and Miami pitcher Jose Fernandez for what he felt was showboating.

Asked Friday about whether those players violated the code of the game, McCann’s reply was simple — and something that almost certainly wouldn’t have been uttered in the Yankees’ clubhouse last year.

'There’s no code,' McCann said in his first day at camp. 'You scream, I’ll scream back.'”

Well look, if there is ever a place to make a name for yourself, it's the Bronx.  I always loved the intensity of guys like Thurman Munson and Jorge Posada and I will enjoy seeing Brian McCann turn it up a notch, no doubt.

I wanted to also offer this little nugget in the catching scenario in Yankeeland.  Austin Romine. Everyone's forgotten about this guy.  Not me. I like him and I want to see him do well.  In fact, at one point I was so disappointed with Francisco Cervelli and the PEDs stuff, I was sure the Yankees would just move Romine into that backup role. I was wrong and hopefully that PEDs crap is behind Cervelli now.

But back to Romine for a moment.  There was good piece by Adam Berry in MLB.com about Romine and him wanting his chance again.  He can't wait to learn from Brian McCann.

"Austin Romine's chances at making the Yankees' Opening Day roster seemingly took a hit when they signed catcher Brian McCann early this offseason, but Romine is taking the optimistic approach as Spring Training draws near.

'First of all, it's a business. Second of all, I thought it was awesome,' the 25-year-old catcher said Tuesday outside the Yanks' Minor League complex. 'I get a chance to study and be under a guy that's been an All-Star forever. You'd be stupid not to pick his brain and learn something. I see it as a great opportunity to learn more about this game from a guy that's been around for a long time. I'm actually really excited.'"

You can't fault a guy like Romine. I think that quote is awesome and I love his attitude.  There is no doubt he will learn a helluva lot from McCann.

I think this is gonna be alot of fun this season. I can't wait.
