DEREK JETER IS THE YANKEES

"O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won”
~ Walt Whitman

Derek Jeter released a letter yesterday announcing the 2014 season would be his last. It was thoughtful and expressive. It explained how tough last season was for him. How it was time for him to move on.

Too many thoughts are trying to jam through your mind. You knew this day would come. That does not make it easier.

Derek Jeter does not just play for the Yankees. He was the Yankees.

Derek Jeter is The Captain. He has proven this over and over.

Derek Jeter will always represent not just what is best about the Yankees, but what is best about humanity.

Derek Jeter deserves to go out on top. These feelings of grief and shock should be turned into grim determination.

I speculated before that the Yankees could use this year as motivation to rally around The Captain, and win it all. I have never been so sorry to be right.

So. Head down. Take the cap off. Take a moment. Let it pass.

Put your hat back on. Set your jaw. Let’s go get that Ring!

There are tears in my eyes as I write this. Derek Jeter is my hero.
