The little engine that could... just did... for many more years!
News just broke a short while ago about our friend Brett Gardner. The dude just got a real nice contract extension with the Yanks. the Yanks just keep on going!
According to the Associated Press:
"Gardner and the New York Yankees have agreed to a four-year contract worth $52 million. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman announced the deal on Sunday. The new pact starts in 2015.
The deal includes a fifth-year club option for $12.5 million and a $2
million buyout. If traded, Gardner would receive $1 million.
Gardner has a $5.6 million, one-year contract for this season."
Looks like the Yankees want their outfield filled with normalcy and consistancy with he, Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury the next few years, and I applaud that.
There is nothing better than a group of guys who work, sleep, eat together everyday. Sooner or later, you know what each other are thinking and doing in the field and there is no doubt that the outfield we have right now is very solid...when healthy of course.
I'm happy for Gardy. Look, there was a lot of banter in the off-season of the Yankees "rumored" to be unloading he rather than Ichiro, and that of course was because his value was much higher than Suzuki's. Now at least we know he'll be sticking around.
Congrats Brett... let's get into the 2014 season already! I can't wait!
