TEIXEIRA "HOPING" HE'LL BE READY FOR OPENING DAY
I believe in hope. But when it comes to health, it's better to take your time and not hope... be sure, so you don't get hurt again. Now while I have read quotes from Mark Teixeira recently about him working hard to be ready by opening day... I'm not getting too excited about it. Sorry.
I was happy to see that the issue of Mark Teixeira's playing status was recently written about by Bryan Hoch by MLB.com. This is what Hoch said:
"... Teixeira said recently that he feels close to 100 percent, though he wishes his surgically repaired right wrist felt a little less stiff. Teixeira has started hitting off a tee, and his game plan is to continue strengthening exercises while swinging a bat throughout the month of January.
He'll begin hitting full-speed pitching in February and expects to be a few ticks behind the rest of the position players when Spring Training begins, so he doesn't plan on being in the Yankees' first exhibition games of the year. Teixeira hopes that he is able to get into Grapefruit League games by the first week of March.
'Right now, I'm six months out of surgery. Will I be 100 percent Day 1? I hope so,' Teixeira told the YES Network last week. 'But even my doctor said, it's going to keep getting looser, keep getting stronger. That's just the way surgery goes. That's just the way it is... And so, yeah, I'm a little anxious about the way I'm going to feel, but I know that as long as I'm doing what I'm told, doing what I'm supposed to be doing, that I should be fine.'"
That's what we know. You can also read a great piece from Suzie Pinstripe on Teixeira too. Read WHAT'S TEIXEIRA DOING TO PREP FOR 2014?. Good Stuff.
