MLB TO INVESTIGATE RANDY LEVINE OVER MIKE TROUT COMMENTS

OK... So how does this work? How do they investigate a passing comment that Randy Levine made about Mike Trout today at the Jacoby Ellsbury press conference? How? Do they ask him what he meant and if he really meant it? Do they rummage through this desk and see if there is any connection between his off-the-cuff comment and if he has a paper receipt with Mike Trout's name on it? Do they tap his phone? Get phone records to see if he ever called Mike Trout? I don't understand how MLB will investigate this... but I guess we'll find out.

Here's the story.  Today, when YES was interviewing Randy Levine, he was asked about Robinson Cano and the Yankees not willing to give him a 10 year contract. Of course he was asked about it... that's what reporters and bloggers do right now.  Levine said this:

“If Mike Trout was here, I would recommend a 10-year contract. But for people over 30, I don’t believe it makes sense. I don’t think Hal thinks it makes sense. We were very clear about that.”

In other words, Trout is 22. Cano is 31. Cano was not getting a contract from the Yankees for 10 years, unless maybe he was Mike Trout. Cano would have to be younger... something like that. Well... Holy hell.

It went from that, to MLB now wanting to investigate Levine, to actual publications now putting out this same story with their headline, "YANKEES WOULD SIGN MIKE TROUT FOR 10 YEARS."  Well, they're overreaching, but while it looks great for the Yankees to do something like that knowing that Trout is outstanding, any team would do that with Mike Trout.... and that's the point.

No, Randy Levine didn't do anything wrong here, not on purpose anyway. He was giving an example and it was Mike Trout.  But not really...

Jeez man... who's steering the ship over there at MLB these days, huh?  What's next? There is no collisions at home plate, unless it IS Mike Trout?  Or should there be an investigation into that as well.  Selig needs to retire now... doesn't he?
