GO SCRATCH ROBBIE!

Greed kills a person’s reputation. Now look, it’s a tough call being a Free Agent.  If you are a talented player, you want to get top dollar.  We’ve seen it time and time again.  Players sign big contracts for a lot of years and a lot of dough and with age comes decline and the organization that signs them usually ends up with their dick in their hand by year 5.  Rarely do big contracts pan out.  The Yankees are still kicking themselves over the Alex Rodriguez deal.  The Angels are already seeing the change of  Albert Pujols and that deal is souring. 

Enter Robinson Cano who, just last week there was a story floated about him wanting 10 years and $300 million (Read I WANT SOME OF WHAT CANO IS DRINKING.)  Now, Let me make a statement… there is no way in hell the Yankees would spend $300 million on a player like Robinson Cano.  I’m going to say something that many will not agree with… he ain’t worth it… start packing… buh bye.

Hal Steinbrenner stated that he would be willing to make a very generous offer to Cano, "solid" he said, and that will come soon as we all know, but 10 years is foolish, read HERE.  Now, Cano can walk around thinking his feelings are being hurt all he wants, but it’s clear that if that $300 million story was floated by the Cano camp, Robbie doesn’t care about the Yankees organization… he cares about rolling around in money.  

The Yankees did something subtle and generous the other day and they did it through Bryan Hoch’s pen.  A glowing story about Cano popped up on Yankees.com just days after he was crucified for having a child and not paying child support, read HERE.  Whatever the circumstances of that story, I don’t care about… it’s not my business.  What is my business is that something important happened with the Yankees… they offered protection.  When Hoch’s story came out, it was their way of saying, “We’ll take care of your reputation, but come back to us as a reasonable rate… otherwise… go scratch.”  Now, I’m going to suggest something now… Cano may be too stupid to realize what happened there and it will never be talked about publicly, but the Yankees are trying here.  They know if they lose Cano, they lose a good player, but they are not willing to bend over for that good player… because, let’s face it, there are plenty to pick apart about Robinson Cano.  

They tried to mold him years ago.  They moved Melky Cabrera out of the Bronx to focus Robbie, and it worked, for a bit, but baseball almost seems too easy to him and so, the way he’s perceived on the field appears to be laziness.  It probably isn’t, but I want my guys busting down the first base line on a play… that’s just me. 

Whatever happens, know this… greed changes people and damages a person’s reputation. That’s a fact… write that down.  We all hope that when the time comes, something can be worked out, but Jay-Z is now holding the puppets strings, and whether or not Z is a Yankee fan or not, it doesn’t matter…. This is business and he’s going to get his client to biggest deal possible… 

Hey Robbie... be humble... be gracious... be a leader.
