ICHIRO STOMP WINS IT FOR THE YANKS!
I like walk-offs. I love wins. I also love wins after getting stomped by the competition the past 3 days. Today in our walk-off win, Ichiro Suzuki stormed home on a wild pitch and sent a message... a stomp on home plate! A "We can do this!" Stomp felt through Yankee stadium and around baseball... the Yankees are NOT dead like I suggested in TOE TAG THE YANKEES... THEY'RE DONE. The Yankees are alive and Ichiro wants it more than anyone... today, that was clear.
Hiroki Kuroda started in this much needed win today. He went 6 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 6. He was followed by Shawn Kelley and then Mariano Rivera. Mo ended up getting the win. That's because Will Middlebrooks homered in the 9th and tied it up.
After that, you know what happened. It happened because Ichiro was able to get on base in the 9th, steal second and then moved to third base on a fly out. Then he raced home on that wild pitch.
Ichiro said of the game, "Obviously, if we lose this one today, it would have been a big hit mentally. It would have been tough, to be honest. But we did win, and hopefully we can take this win here, get on a run, and really use it to our advantage."
The Yankees runs went like this: Mark Reynolds doubled in the 4th scoring Alex Rodriguez. In the 5th, Robinson Cano knocked in 2. Then, you know about Ichiro in the 9th.
Final: Yankees 4 - Red Sox 3.
Now we need a winning streak. Please... I beg you...
