MARK REYNOLDS IS A NEW YORK YANKEE!
It was out there... the idea of a righty hitting Mark Reynolds, recently released by the Indians and a perfect platoon for Lyle Overbay on the Yankees, but no one was talking about it. Then Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com assisted in breaking the news... The Yankees had agreed to terms with Reynolds, read HERE. While I'm not overly jazzed about it, I like it, kind of. It's not great, it's not bad... it's fair.
We now have a power hitter in Reynolds. We also have a first baseman who can trade days with Overbay and while Reynolds strikes out alot, hopefully it brings that extra offense we need. For the Indians, Reynolds had 15 homers and 48 RBIs, but his average was at .215. Hopefully he can be clutch when the Yanks need him and bring up that average a bit.
As Heyman says, "The righty-hitting Reynolds is insurance for third since ARod can't play every day, and he can also fill in at first base where the left-handed-hitting Lyle Overbay has done a decent job. Reynolds has terrific power but has been a bit streaky this year.
Reynolds, a veteran who previously played for the Diamondbacks and Orioles, picked the Yankees among four interested teams. The Indians decided to go use Jason Giambi more, limiting Reynolds' time."
Welcome to the Bronx Mark, we're happy to have you.
