SORIANO THE SAVIOR

With a deal 99% complete, the Yankees are getting a righty power hitter in Alfonso Soriano.  He has a career 389 home run hitter and can do damage at the plate. Offense. We need it, we're desperate for it. And now, as Soriano is minutes away from a reunion with the Yankees... you have to ask yourself 1 question... is Alfonso Soriano (with his 1665 career strikeouts) really the right guy? OR is this just a "comfort" thing and the Yankees are masking their desperation with an ex-Yankee to trick Yankeeland into thinking their trying to improve the club? I don't have the answer... but you need to ask yourself what's about to happen here.

According to the New York Daily News (HERE), "The Yankees and Cubs were on the verge of completing a deal Thursday night that would send Alfonso Soriano back to the Bronx, one that would add a much-needed righthanded bat to the Bombers' ailing lineup.

Soriano was pulled from the Cubs lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks, a move several Chicago media outlets reported was made after Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein informed manager Dale Svuem that a deal was 99 percent done."

Yankeeland needs help.  No doubt, Soriano can help, but we need more than Soriano and just so you're aware... we're getting a 37 year old baseball player.  I notice the same fans raving about a reunion with Soriano, but 2 weeks ago, they were bitching that the Yankees were too old... so, which is it?

I like Soriano. I'm excited to see the guy in pinstripes again, but Soriano isn't all we need.  We need an extra starting pitcher. We need at least 2 more bats and we need to trade away the dead weight and actually be competitive.  Because while last night, we won... we need a string of wins.

I have no doubt Alfonso Soriano will bring energy to this club, and with the timing of Derek Jeter, Michael Pineda and Curtis Granderson, many big things can happen... but let's not get ahead of ourselves yet.

We're 6.5 out of first place... we are hardly out of it. But I want to be in it, in first place and NOT looking over our shoulder.  It's much better than trying to catch up all season. So yes... Alfonso... I welcome you, but prove you truly are a savior, and not just a mirage... we need big hits in big moments... and while I appreciate you, Yankee brass needs to get us more as well... that's all I'm saying.
