Today is Derek Jeter's birthday. It should be a National Holiday knowing all we know about this fine individual with more talent and poise than any athlete I have seen in a very long time. Players admire him, fans want to meet him and kids want to be him. How's that for a ringing endorsement?
I believe in fate and when that #2 was available for the taking back when Jeter came up, it was almost like he was supposed to have it. Sure, there are so many retired lo.w digits around him in Yankee History and once Jeter decides to hang it up, his too will be retired. But again, it was almost like this was supposed to happen.
Everything the man does turns to gold. Amazing plays, strong leadership, professionalism, championships. In short, he wears the pinstripes and knows what it means to be a New York Yankee. He stays on the positive non-arrogant track and has never changed. I can think about a dozen guys that should follow in his footsteps. You want more praise? Read THAT JETER SPIRIT & APPEAL RAGES ON...
It's genuine.
So, here's to you Cap! You have made me damn proud knowing what you represent and seeing my kids wear #2 to school, well, that's is a testiment to all you do in your life, on and off the field, you're alright with me kiddo!
Happy Birthday.
