RAUL RETURNS & THE YANKEES FOOL FELIX

The Yankees returned home after splitting the doubleheader with the Indians on Monday. They began their home stand with a 3 game series with the Seattle Mariners. King Felix Hernandez took the mound and he always pitches well against the Yankees.

He faced off opposite to CC Sabathia who met each other for the first time this season.

First thing's first Curtis Granderson made his season debut and started in left. Nice to see him finally off the disabled list and back in Pinstripes. Read more about Curtis' return in Erica's piece this morning on Bleeding Yankee Blue. Also, was the return of Raul Ibanez with Seattle since signing with them in the off season.

Nice to see you again, RAUUULLL!

CC Sabathia got knocked around a bit. The Mariners managed to get 10 hits, but he also struck out 10 in 6.1 innings. He gave 3 runs including a 2 run home run by Ibanez.

On the M's side of pitching King Felix went 6.0 innings holding the Yankees to 5 hits and sticking out but it wasn't until the 6th where Lyle Overbay hit an RBI double scoring Granderson who was walked giving the Yankees their first run of the game. Then in the bottom of the 7th inning Robinson Cano hit a deep game-tying 2 run double. A few batters later Overbay hit a sac-fly to center scoring Cano giving the Yankees the lead 4-3.

David Robertson came in for relief work in the 8th where Jayson Nix made an unassisted double play. Mariano Rivera entered in the 9th to close the door, and earn save number 624.

They stayed in the game, folks. It's not how you start but how you finish. These guys are
continuously battling to the final out. I love it!

Final score Yankees 4 - Mariners 3.
