The Yankees have not had a great start this season. Right
now though, we're at 4-4 and it seems like some nights we're struggling.
Pitching and hitting had been out of sync. But you know what? It was exactly what I expected and we will be fine!
Yankees fans are upset and frustrated. I get it. It’s never
easy watching a team like the Yankees lose. Especially since we know what they
are truly capable of. But these are normal first half woes for the Yankees. We
always struggle this early on. I always say this is their time to iron out the
wrinkles.
Look, as far back as 2004, they have hit better after the All-Star game. In 2009, they hit .276 Pre All-Star and .293 Post All-Star. Last season, it was a .262 average before and a .267 average after. Their collective batting averages are higher in July, August and September nearly every season. I know that is just a bunch of numbers, but stats don't lie. The Yankees hit better in the summer months. The same is true for our pitching... we usually rack up a considerable amount of strikeouts after the All-Star break than before.
The Yankees play in the AL East. It is not nicknamed the AL
“Beast” without good reason. No team will be running away with the division,
and the record after eight games will not change that. At this time last season we were fourth in our
division. And we still managed to clinch the division and make the playoffs.
You cannot predict the outcome of 162 games based on the first 8.
So what am I saying? This... it's a short post, but it's a reality check. The reality is the Yankees will be fine in 2013... and as far as the 4-4 record right now. Let's just call today a whole new season... how's that sound?
Sure, John Sterling has said many times to Suzyn Waldman... "Suzyn, you just can't predict baseball." But I'll tell you something, you can always predict the Yankees to have a slow start... and I'm not worried.
