MARLINS "NOT TALKING" STANTON TRADE? DOUBTFUL

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald says in his piece today that the Miami Marlins have not chatted about a trade involving Giancarlo Stanton "internally".  I say... Clark Spencer's source is bullshitting him.   According to Spencer:

"The Marlins are not shopping Stanton. They are not dangling him like the carrot at the end of a stick. They are not floating his name to other teams... Simply put, the Marlins "are not moving him," according to a source I spoke with. They haven't even "discussed" it internally. The team's plans calling for Stanton to start the season with the club and occupy the clean-up spot have "not changed at all," according to another source with knowledge of the Marlins' intentions."

Spencer's full piece is HERE. Sure, you can read what Spencer wrote and say "case closed", but the underlying part of that quote above is what's to say that a team, like the Yankees, or the Red Sox, or the Mariners can give a call and make a deal so sweet, they won't bite?  Any one of those teams could call and say, "Hey, we have 5 guys we're ready to move to Miami for Stanton, let's make a deal...". You're going to sit here and tell me that it wouldn't happen? I'm telling you, baseball is a business. Owners, GM's, Assistant GMs, especially Dan Jennings talk out of both sides of their mouth  to get what they want, not the fans... remember that. And lately, I'm not going to lie, "sources familiar with the situation" aren't always familiar with the situation... you know what I mean?
Let me be clear, this is not a slap against Clark Spencer. He's the man and I'm not slighting him in the least. He does his job and does it great. I'm just telling you that there are too many negatives involved with Giancarlo Stanton and the Florida Marlins right now and no team likes to have an unhappy player on their club.  Bottom line, the Marlins may claim to want to start Stanton this season in Miami... but who says Stanton wants to, contract or not? And who says the right team can't call the Marlins when they least expect it and make one more blockbuster deal this winter.  I'm saying, anything is possible and baseball fans know that.

Cue Cashman...
