THE CAPTAIN LEADS US

The Yankees have had one amazing season so far. They have been hit with injury after injury and it seems like they just will not stop battling it out. That’s why I absolutely love this team! Looking back at this season, one person sticks out to me more than anyone else. Yes, I am talking about none other then our beloved Captain, Derek Jeter.

Time and again this season, Jeter has proven to us why he is the captain. He basically carried the entire team all season. Jeter leads the team in hits and batting average with 213 and .318 respectively. He is qualified for the batting title. It’s funny to me to even write that knowing that at the beginning of the 2011 season, so many people were calling for Jeter to hang up his cleats. They were saying that his days as “Captain Clutch” were long gone. I sincerely hope that humble pie tastes good!

There have been a lot of great contributors this season. Ichiro Suzuki came to us and made a complete turn around. He is hitting .330 for us. Considering how he was doing in Seattle, I am grateful to have him. Raul Ibanez, who has 18 home runs and 59 RBI’s, has also proven to be an asset to the club, despite his age. There are a few others we could mention, but there is no denying that Jeter has been our constant.

Recently, there has been talk about whether or not Jeter could become MVP. With guys like Mike Trout in the running, it’ll probably be a no go, but Jeter is definitely making people ask “why not?” and it's great to see! As far as batting averages go, he is neck and neck with Trout. And he leads the AL in hits. Miguel Cabrera is trailing 199 to 213.

Derek Jeter is one of the top reasons why you don’t count the Yankees out. He has been a shining example of the fact that the Yankees will battle it out until the very end...and have. Not that I feel that Jeter has anything to prove, his career as it is today has been incredible and I feel lucky to have witnessed it from the beginning, but if there were ever a question about whether or not Jeter still has “it,” he put it to rest this season. Between his fielding, hitting and the way he motors into first every single time, he has shown why he is the Captain of the New York Yankees.

Captain, I salute you!
