REFLECTING ON THE YANKEES, THE AL EAST DIVISION CHAMPS

I know you already know the Yanks are division champs, but hey, I just like the way it sounds. After the season that the Yankees have had, I think I am entitled to continue repeating it.

This team has battled it out quite literally to the very end, clinching the division in game 162. We over came injuries, slumps and watching a 10 game lead dwindle down to nearly nothing. But we always managed to keep our hold of first place. It has been exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time.

Each one of the guys contributed and helped get this team where it is now. We had Ichiro Suzuki come to us from Seattle where he wasn’t doing very well and do a complete 180.

Raul Ibanez came up big with the hits at times where it seemed we needed it most. Andy Pettitte came out of retirement and completely dominated the mound. Rafael Soriano has 42 saves this season and was huge to us after the loss of Mariano Rivera. Last season people were saying that Derek Jeter was too old to play and he put up incredible numbers this season and led this team beautifully. Really, the list can go and on.
Joe Girardi took a lot of heat from fans in August when the team went into a slump. Considering the all the obstacles that the team has faced this year, I think he has done a beautiful job getting us to where we need to be. I don’t always agree with his choices during the game but I will give credit where it is due.

They never gave up. They took the brunt of every hit thrown at them and came out swinging. The post season will be no different. Regardless of who we face in the ALDS, expect the Yankees to give it 150%. This team has a lot of fight left in them and they know that they alone control their destiny.
It’s October baseball in the Bronx. The way it should be.
