THE BLEEDING YANKEE BLUE NEWSSTAND XIII

Here's the Sunday edition of the BYB Newsstand for your enjoyment. This blog has become incredibly popular and we thank you so much for looking for it and reading it.  You guys rock.

CC THROWS A BULLPEN AND LIFE IS GOOD: CC pitched a bullpen session yesterday and according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, there were no issues. Read that HERE. Great quote from Sabathia here from that piece. CC says: "Pending any kind of setbacks or swelling or anything, I should be ready to go... I haven't had any of that the past couple of days, so I should be good." Look, there is no doubt that Hiroki Kuroda and the rest of the Yankees have stepped up, but we need CC Monster big time.  I can't wait to see him Friday.

RUSSELL MARTIN & THE MENDOZA LINE: Russell Martin is batting .195 and hasn't had a bat this season.  It's kind of surprising actually.  I often think about Mario Mendoza, a player that played in the 1970's and late 80's who the phrase came from. According to Wikipedia, HERE, who has the best interpretation of how the expression came about, "The "Mendoza Line" was created as a clubhouse joke among baseball players in 1979, when from early May onwards, Mendoza's average was always within a few points of .200 either way, finishing out the season at .198. 'My teammates Tom Paciorek and Bruce Bochte used it to make fun of me,' Mendoza said in 2010. 'Then they were giving George Brett a hard time because he had a slow start that year, so they told him, 'Hey, man, you're going to sink down below the Mendoza Line if you're not careful.'"
Russell Martin is no Mario Mendoza, he is however having a down year at the plate. I love his defense though.  Brian Cashman once touted Russell Martin as "Munson-like", read HERE Thurman Munson had a lifetime batting average of .292. Just saying.
BYB SHIRTS CONTINUE TO POP UP: Bleeding Yankee Blue appreciates our readers.  It's not like we put this stuff out and never talk to you.  We talk to you and interact constantly and I hope that's what makes us unique...we're family.  Here is Mikal standing in front of Yankee Stadium wearing a Bleedingyankeeblue.com shirt and wearing it proud.  It doesn't get much better than this.  Below is Bryan sporting his BYB shirt.  He won it in a contest.
This is freaking awesome. To think out shirts are being worn all over the world is just amazing. We love you guys, we'll continue to provide quality stuff for you, make you laugh and have fun...as long as it stays fun. Thank you all.

CONGRATS TO THE PARSIPPANY LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM: On Saturday night, Parsippany NJ beat the Gresham Orgeon Little League team 10-4. According to the AP, "Emil Matti hit two solo homers and scored four runs to lead Parsippany to a 10-4 victory over Gresham, Ore., on Saturday night..." The Associated Press has that story. If you get a chance, read it HERE. Now they are set to play the loser of the Petaluma, Calif.,- Goodlettsville, Tenn game today. So Monday at 4pm it will be Parsippany vs. someone. Just awesome! Why am I bringing you this story? Because these are kids with so much passion and desire that sometimes gets lost when players hit the pros.  It's innocent, it's real and it's something that needs to be reported once in a while!

I LOVE EARL WEAVER: Look, this is a Yankee site, but I love the history of Major League baseball.  One of the most entertaining managers in the 80's was Earl Weaver.  I don't know where this came from but I love it and always appreciated Weaver's passion, he protected his guys.  Now look, there is foul language on this video, it's Earl Weaver, what else do you expect?  But you need to love this, enjoy it, but again, careful... there's terrible language.
