Andrew Marchand of ESPN has a story about some of the kids of the
New York Yankees... ManBan and Jose Campos, 2 guys the Yankees have high
hopes for, but as we have posted earlier this year, some feel as though guys
like Dellin Betances and Manny Banuelos have been over-hyped. Read YOUNG GUNS III: STRUGGLE OF THE KILLER B's. It’s interesting to say
the least, these are kids that Brian Cashman once said were pretty much
untouchable. Ironically, he actually did
say that about Jesus Montero and that led to him going to Seattle for Michael Pineda and Jose Campos, ironically the exact guy that we are discussing in
this post. It’s funny how the world goes
round. If you give me 5 minutes, I’m sure I can come up with the 6 degrees of
Kevin Bacon involving Jose Campos, but that may be for another post at another time.

Anyway, Marchand writes that Brian Cashman believes that
Manny and Campos, both who have been out since April (Campos) and May
(Banuelos), are expected to pitch in 2012.
Read HERE. As Cash put it, “They
will both pitch this year.”
Don’t forget, both have sore elbows. It’s kind of ironic, isn’t it? With Brett Gardner also out with a sore elbow, I’m starting to wonder if it’s something that
the Yankee trainers are doing with the guys or if it’s self inflicted and just a coincidence.
Anyway, Banuelos pitched last on May 18th
and is record this season is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA with Scranton. Campos is 3-0 with a 4.01 ERA.

Look, there’s no doubt I’d love to see these guys up but
time will tell if they are truly what has been written about them. Many believe these guys are the real thing,
but you need to wonder if these injuries affect their futures in
pinstripes. Why do I say that? Quite
simply, Marchand asked Cash if the elbow
will be a problem long-term. He responded… “I hope not.” It’s probably wasn’t a
fair question, who can predict the future, but I am not too jazzed about that answer either. Any way you slice it, I’m looking forward to
seeing these guys work in the pros.
Oh and about Jose Campos and the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon…
Jose Campos is on Scranton Wilkes Barre with Francisco Cervelli . Francisco Cervelli was a teammate of Derek Jeter.
Derek Jeter played on the Yankees with Billy Crystal for 1 day in March
2008 (read HERE.) Billy Crystal was in City Slickers with Bruno Kirby. Bruno Kirby was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon. BOOM!
I love the six degrees of Kevin Bacon... you're turn. Comment.
