YANKEE PROSPECT TYLER AUSTIN NAMED TO 2012 FUTURES GAME

Most Yankee fans know who Manny Banuelos, Dellin Betances, and Austin Romine are.  Those are the guys that have been highly touted so it makes sense they have almost become household names. However, there is one guy some fans may not be aware of but will very soon.  Let me introduce you to a budding Yankee prospect, Tyler Austin.  Austin has had a tremendous year for the Class-A Charleston River Dogs, and because of it he will take part in the 2012 Futures Game in Kansas City during the MLB All Star break.

Through 59 games and 263 plate appearances, Tyler Austin, a right handed hitting right fielder, is batting .339  with a .411 On-Base-Percentage and a .657 Slugging Percentage. He also has 14 homers and 52 RBI.  Austin is in the middle of his third year with the Yankees organization and he has been more than solid.  His batting average over those three years is .344 with a .415 OBP.  He's hit 20 HRs and has 88 RBI. These aren’t ordinary numbers, folks. These are numbers that deserve some recognition. I imagine he’ll be on Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospect List next year, and that will be well deserved.

Anyway, back to the Futures Game. Tyler Austin was the only Yankee farmhand to be selected to play in the Futures Game. It’s Tyler Austin’s time in the limelight and there is no question he deserves it. So congrats Tyler.  We look forward to bigger and better things for you as you climb up the Yankee minor league system.
